Wyoming Area School District held its annual Title I parent meeting Dec. 11 at the Wyoming Area Kindergarten Center in Exeter. The annual Title I Parent meeting focused on how parents can help improve their child’s academic success by being involved with their child’s education and communicating with the Title I staff. Guest speakers for the meeting were Title I parents who, along with their children, attended the Pennsylvania State Parent Advisory Council (SPAC) conference last summer at the Seven Springs Resort in Champion. These parents shared their experiences and educational information obtained from the conference on how parents could help improve their child’s academic skills. Their message was to encourage other parents in attendance at the meeting to consider attending the Title I State Parent Conference, which is held every summer. Rita Mauriello, Title I coordinator, discussed the district’s Title I reading program. The district’s Title I policies were reviewed for parent input, as required by Title I guidelines. Reading specialists also attended and met with parents. Parents attending the meeting received packets containing Title I forms, information and policies and information about the 2020 state conference. They also received reading handouts with suggestions for parents on how to help their child with reading at home. Children also received a Dr. Seuss reading bag, which contained children’s reading books. Door prizes also were awarded. Parent Leadership Certificates were presented to parents who attended the state conference last summer.
