Eagle Scout Adam Paul Lazar


Former Duryea Boy Scout Troop 285, in conjunction with Avoca/Dupont Scout Troop 316, will conduct an Eagle Scout Court of Honor reception for Adam Paul Lazar. Adam, who will be a senior at Pittston Area High School, received the Eagle Scout rank from the NEPA Council, Moosic, on June 8, 2020, via Zoom. The reception, hosted by the troops, his parents and grandparents, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Dupont Hose Company Hall, 308 Main St., Dupont.

Adam is the son of Karen Richardson and Adam Edwards, Chittenden Street, Duryea. He is the grandson of Gary and Lehrae Ann Edwards, Duryea, and Linda and Pat McLaughlin, La Verne, California.

Adam began his scouting career with Duryea Cub Scout Pack 375 as a Bear Cub Scout is September 2012 and advanced through the ranks to earn the Arrow of Light Award on Feb. 13, 2015. He joined Duryea Boy Scout Troop 285 on April 9, 2015, and after crossing the bridge at the Blue and Gold Banquet, he received his Boy Scout Badge and became a member of Eagle Patrol. He attended Goose Pond Summer Camp and also attended the NEPA Council traveling camporee to Washington, D.C., in 2014 as a Webelos II Scout and the camporee at Niagara Falls, New York, in 2016.

Adam earned 29 merit badges and has assisted with several Eagle Scout projects for his fellow Scouts. He has held the positions of den chief, quartermaster, Eagle Patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader with Troop 316. He is a member of the National Slovak Society Leaf 75, Duryea, and the 2021 NSS Youth Achievement Award winner for outstanding service to community, school/work, religious and assembly fraternal participation.

As his Eagle Scout project, with the help of both his troops, NSS Leaf 75 members and family and friends, Adam repaired and replaced 8,000 Christmas blub lights for Dupont Lions Club’s Christmas snowflake and swag lights on Main Street, Dupont, in July 2019.

After graduation in 2022, Adam hopes to attend Wilkes University and then Salus University for Optometry.

Bulock, of St. Mary’s Church, Duryea, and former Scoutmaster, congratulate Adam on becoming the troop’s 29th and final Eagle Scout. Scoutmaster Matt Fino and Avoca/Dupont Troop 316, along with the troop’s sponsoring organization, Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca, and the Rev. Philip J. Sladicka, pastor, congratulate Adam on becoming that troop’s 17th Eagle Scout.
