Sacred Heart has two upcoming events starting this weekend with the Women’s Society’s annual springtime bale sale and raffle on Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29. The bake sale will be held during and after the weekend Masses. Raffle drawing will be held after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 29.

Next weekend, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish will sponsor its first indoor flea market from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 5, and from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 6. Items include household items, kitchen items, toys, holiday decorations, books, jewelry and furniture. All proceeds benefit the parish building fund.


Youth Baseball barbecue

Dupont Youth Baseball Organization will hold its third annual chicken barbecue fundraiser from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Dupont Youth Baseball Field’s Centerfield Pavilion.

Eat in dinners or takeouts will be available. Donation is $10 and tickets are available at the Dupont Baseball Field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday or at the Dupont Municipal Office during normal business hours. Menu includes half a barbecue chicken, coleslaw, corn on the cob, roll and dessert.

Purchase your tickets early as last year event was an early sellout.


Paper shredding

A community paper shredding event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Healey Playground, Wright and Foote avenues in Duryea.

The event is sponsored by state Rep. Mike Carroll and state Sen. John Blake, in conjunction with the Avoca, Dupont and Duryea police departments and Crime Watch groups.

Bring your old bills, bank statements, medical records, cancelled checks, old tax returns or any documents you would like to have permanently destroyed. A representative from Shed-It Management will be on hand to securely destroy your sensitive materials. You can bring up to two boxes of outdated documents per household.


Lions food distribution

Dupont Lions Club’s monthly food distribution will be held at Holy Mother of Sorrows hall from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 24. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.


Memorial Day Parade

The annual Memorial Day Parade sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 and the AMVETS will be held Monday, May 28. Time to be announced.


Get gas

Residents who need to apply for gas can do so by going online to or call UGI representative Mike Trusa at 570-829-8664.


Electronics collection

Dupont will hold an electronics recycling from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Dupont Municipal Building.

Items that can be recycled free of charge are desktop and laptop computers, keyboards and mice, printers and fax machines; cables/cords, cell phones and telephones, laptop batteries and UPS battery backups, calculators and adding machines, toner and ink cartridges, audio visual equipment, DVD and VCR players, gaming systems, string Christmas lights, microwaves and small appliances, metal items, small exercise equipment, car batteries (sealed lead acid), bed frames and rain spouting and filing cabinets.

Additional items that can be recycled for a fee include: washers and dryers, $20; dishwashers, $20; CRT monitors, $15 (tube type) ; LCD monitors, $10; televisions under 40 inches, $35; TVs in wooden cabinets, projection and over 40 inches, $55; air conditioners, $25; dehumidifiers, $25; refrigerators, $30; ranges/stoves, $20; floor copiers, $20; console stereos, in cabinet, $35.


Borough website

Dupont Borough has a newly designed website that is available to residents at Any group or organizations having events they would like posted on the new site can email the information to or send it directly to the new website. The site also includes a list of businesses and emergency numbers.


Summer help

Dupont Borough is seeking a CDL driver and workers for the summer. Applications are available at the municipal office during regular business hours. For information on available positions, call the borough office at 570-655-6216.


Lions scholarships

The 2018 Lions Club Scholarships are now available. The scholarships are open only to Dupont resident high school graduates who plan on attending college. Applications are available at the Dupont Municipal Building or contact Lion Annmarie Paddock at 570-407-0231.


Sacred Heart remodeling

Sacred Heart will remove the old pews from the church Monday, May 21, to make way for the interior renovations work. Perhaps you would like the pew where you and your family have sat for decades. If interested, please contact Kathy at the parish office during regular business hours as soon as possible at 570-654-3713. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Fridays. You can make a request for a specific pew or even a number of pews. Pews will be given on a first come, first served basis. Pews must be picked up Monday, May 21.


VFW meeting

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the post home. Many items of importance will be discussed and reports given. Commander Mark Roney will preside and the Home Association meeting will follow. Refreshments will be served after both meetings.


Road closure

Dupont Police Depart issued a travel advisory. Main Street will be closed April 30 to May 4. Norfolk Southern will be repairing and replacing the railroad crossing. Please make adjustments to your daily travel plans during these days.


Medication disposal

You can safely dispose of unused or expired medicine by dropping them in the prescription collection drop box inside the Dupont Municipal Building during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please remove personal information from all bottles.

Accepted items are: prescriptions, prescription patches and ointments, over the counter medications, vitamins, samples and medication for pets. Non-acceptable items include: thermometers, hydrogen peroxides, inhalers and needles, medications from businesses or clinical sand aerosol cans. For information of drop-off locations visit:
