Pastor Stanley Oschman retired in 2016 after 37 years of working in finance to do one thing: “To plant and grow a church in the Pittston Area,” he explained.

He and his wife formed the Plaid Community Church in April 2016. The church usually meets at Original Italian Pizza near Heather Highlands from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays for dinner and Bible study.

The church has 16 core members and 40 to 45 members who reach out, volunteer and do what they call “Church on the Road.” This simply means they go around to homes and arenas and play music for older folks. One such show is scheduled at the Mountain View nursing home from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 10.

The church also has a fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, April 21, dedicated to Pathway, a group for women in crisis. All proceeds from the show will go to these women in need. The show will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Heather Highlands community room. Cost is $25 per ticket for this dinner and show.

The group also will meet for Bible study from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Highland Park Senior Living. Additional regular meetings will be held at 9 a.m. Fridays at the Perkins on Route 315. Bible study will follow a meal.

According to Oschman, the church groups are called life groups because they are meeting and doing life together. To this church, L.I.F.E means Love Is For Everyone, so everyone is welcome at this church.

“Love God, love people, share the gospel,” he said.
