Kevin Booth, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, announced registration of students who plan on attending kindergarten in the district for the 2019-20 school year will be held through March 20. All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2019. Parents may register in one of the following two ways: Access the online registration site at www.pittstonarea.com and complete all required information by Wednesday, March 20, which is the preferred method. Or, return a completed registration packet and copies of required documentation to the Administrative Office, 5 Stout St., Yatesville, by Wednesday March 20. Registration packets can be picked up at the administrative office, if necessary.
Pittston Area will hold kindergarten screening from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, March 25, through Wednesday, March 27, at the Pittston Area Primary Center, Rock Street, Hughestown. Students will be screened alphabetically according to the child’s last name: A-I, March 25; J-R, March 26, and S-Z, March 27.
A parent or guardian must bring the student to the screening. Each child will receive hearing and vision screenings. Children also will receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, which is an assessment of pre-reading skills, consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment. Lastly, all students will have their photo taken and immunization history will be reviewed.
