Kevin Booth, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, announced registration and screening of students who plan on attending kindergarten in the district for the 2018-19 school year will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Pittston Area Primary Center. All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2018.

Parents may register in one of the following ways:

Access the online registration site: www.pittstonarea.com and complete all required information by Monday, Aug. 13 (preferred method).

Return a completed registration packet and copies of required documentation to the administrative office, 5 Stout St., Pittston, by Monday, Aug. 13. Registration packets also can be picked up at the administrative office, if necessary.

The kindergarten screening process will take place at registration Aug. 15. A parent or guardian must bring the student to the primary center during the screening.

Each child will receive hearing and vision screening. Children also will receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, which is an assessment of pre-reading skills consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment.

Lastly, immunization history will be reviewed. The following immunizations are required: four doses of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine (one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday); three doses of polio vaccine; three doses of hepatitis B vaccine; two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); two doses varicella vaccine (chicken pox) or proof of having had the disease.
