The Linda Kohut/Pittston Active Adult Center celebrated 50 years of serving people 60 years and over in Pittston City on Oct. 11. A ceremony included performances by opera singer Paul Bednarek, who is an active member of the center. State Sen. John Yudichak and state Rep. Mike Carroll presented citations and they, along with Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo, offered congratulatory remarks. Harley Bobby, director of all of the Active Adult Centers for the Area Agency on Aging of Luzerne/Wyoming Counties, also spoke about the milestone. The center’s members performed, including Ron Voveris reading a poem he wrote, George Haydu performing a harmonica piece, and Ron McAdarra, Lucy Pocceschi, Jerry Marriggi, Charles Free and Joan Luksa singing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ with help from the center’s karaoke machine. HoneyPot Productions provided music after the luncheon and Laura Kotula donated a cake for the occasion. Sam Messina led the group with the pledge and prayer and Ronald McAdarra called bingo. Director Joan Luksa, assistant director Melody Bartusek and nutrition manager Nicolina Briggs, along with many volunteers, organized the program. Pittston Active Adult Center offers meals, games and activities, health presentations, exercise classes and more. For information, call 570-655-5561.
