Phoenix Theatrics will present “Gypsy” Aug. 5 through Aug. 13. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. at the Phoenix Performing Arts Centre, 409 Main St., Duryea. “Gypsy” is set in 1959, based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous burlesque striptease artist. The story focuses on her mother, Rose, whose is determined that her younger daughter, June, will have a successful career, but after June elopes, Mama turns her attention on her older, less talented daughter, Louise, who eventually becomes the world famous Gypsy Rose Lee, Burlesque Queen. Tickets are $12, general seating. For reservations, call the box office at 570-457-3589 or purchase tickets at the door. Opening weekend includes burlesque artists from the House of Von Jane, who will be at the shows to mingling with audience members. Lee LaChette is director/choreographer and Jezabelle von Jane, head mistress at Aerial Gypsy Burlesque, lead designer/owner of Silhouette House and co-producer at Philadelphia’s Burlesque Battle Royale, is assistant choreographer/burlesque mentor. Jenn Johnson is musical director.
