GREATER PITTSTON PROGRESS FILE PHOTO
Anyone who is interested in running the annual Miles for Michael Tomato Festival 5K Run, but is a little apprehensive, has an opportunity to give the course a try before the main event. Thursday, Aug. 3, will be the first Miles for Michael Tomato Festival 5K Practice Run/Celebrity Bartending Happy Hour. There will be a practice run on the race course at 5:30 p.m. Participants can then cool off and reenergize with a drink and a bite to eat at the Tomato Bar, conveniently located right by the finish line. All those participating in the practice run will meet at the Tomato Bar and will walk down to the start line in front of Fino’s Market. Those who aren’t interested in running are welcome to head directly to the happy hour/celebrity bartending event, which will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge, and there will be prizes, raffle basket of cheer and live music by Joe Burke. All proceeds will benefit the Miles for Michael Foundation. Four celebrity bartenders are taking part in the event: Ashley Aritz, Billy Joyce Jr., Aaron Joyce and former Mayor Mike Lombardo. All four have played an integral part in the success of past races. Organizers of the Miles for Michael Tomato Festival 5K Practice Run/Celebrity Bartending Happy Hour are Jay Duffy, 5K chairman; Joleen Lazecki and Brandon Allen.
