Leadership Wilkes-Barre announces Will Beekman, of Duryea, executive director of the F.M. Kirby Center, will be awarded the 2019 Distinguished Leadership Award at the 38th annual dinner and graduation at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Mohegan Sun Pocono Hotel & Convention Center.
The dinner celebrates Leadership Wilkes-Barre’s graduating class of 2019 and welcomes the incoming class of 2020.
“The 2019 annual dinner marks 38 years of developing community leaders,” said Lori Nocito, executive director of LWB. “We are proud to honor Will Beekman, who is a dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of our organization. Will’s generous commitment to Leadership Wilkes-Barre and the community makes him an excellent choice for this year’s Distinguished Leader Award.”
Beekman joined the F.M. Kirby Center in 2010 and became executive director in 2014 with the responsibility of being both a venue manager and talent buyer for the center, which ranked 93rd in worldwide ranking of venue ticket sales for 2018. Busier than ever, the Kirby Center is averaging nearly 150 events per year, greatly impacting both the economy and quality of life in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
A two-time graduate of Penn State University, he resides in Duryea with his wife, Katie, and their daughters, Hannah, 5, and Allie, 3.
He also sits on the boards of directors of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, Diamond City Partnership, Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association and Wilkes-Barre YMCA, while also serving on the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Advisory Board.
