Greater Wilkes-Barre Labor Council recently volunteered their services at the Greater Pittston Meals on Wheels food bank in support of the annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive. For the past 26 years, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Labor Council has provided volunteers to help food pantry workers and members of NALC Branch 162, who represent the letter carrier union members of the Greater Pittston area in collecting food donated by postal customers. Joe Padavan, GWBLC president, stated one of the greatest features of this food drive is that food donated locally stays local. After picking up donated food on their routes, the carriers take that food to the nearest food bank, which includes Greater Pittston Meals on Wheels. On a national level, more than 1.6 billion pounds of food was collected and distributed to thousands of local food banks.
