The 2018 Pittston Area school tax bills are in face value for payment until Nov. 30.

The tax office at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., will now be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Special arrangements may be made by calling Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock at 570-654-9710.

For those on the payment plan, the second payment is due Oct. 31.

Payments can be sent anytime in the mail or dropped off at 3 Laflin Road. The postmark will be accepted as payment date. If a receipt is required, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the payment.

Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte will now have office hours from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays at her home office, 12 E. Oak St. Appointments also may be made by calling 570-654-8807

If you are a new property owner and have not yet received your bill or if you received a bill in error, please contact your tax collector.

Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch

Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch will resume this month with a meeting scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Pittston Twp. Halloween party

The Pittston Twp. Recreation Board and Board of Supervisors are hosting a Halloween party for the children of the township. Infants to children 12 years old are invited from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the St. Joseph Marello Parish Center, 237 William St.

There will be refreshments, music and games for all, as well as prizes for best costume.

Jenkins Twp. Hose

Company fund drive

Jenkins Twp. Volunteer Hose Company is conducting its 2018 fundraising drive.

Approximately 70 percent of the hose company’s operating budget is supported by donations from Jenkins Twp. and Yatesville Borough residents and businesses. It is through these donations that the volunteer fire department is able to continue its operations.

If you have not received a mailer, please contact the Jenkins Twp. Volunteer Hose Company at 570-655-5045 and leave your name and address.

Jenkins Twp. rental

property ordinance

Jenkins Twp. recently passed Ordinance No. 003 of 2018, governing rental properties within the township.

This ordinance requires all landlords to file reports listing all rentable units, tenants or occupiers and any change requiring occupancy permits and inspections of all rental units prior to occupancy.

The township sent out letters to explain the ordinance in more detail. All landlords or owners must fill out the enclosed registration form that comes with the letter and submit the fee owed.

All rental properties are required to have registration forms submitted to the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Office or at www.jenkinstownship.net.

Jenkins Twp. announcements

Jenkins Twp. wishes for all residents to know the Department of Public Works employees are working diligently to respond to all of the road repair requests.

There are 17 square miles of roads within the township and only three department employees. They appreciate your patience and understanding as they make repairs.

The township’s zoning and building department reminds anyone making improvements and additions that they must obtain proper permits. Call the municipal building at 570-654-3315 for information.

Jenkins yard waste

Yard waste bins are on sale for $11 each. Yard waste will be picked up in Jenkins Twp. every Thursday.

Residents are reminded to put yard waste in the appropriate containers.

Containers must have perforations on the bottom, handles on each side and cannot have a lid on top. They may not have rims on the top, wheels on the bottom, or exceed 20 gallons. The filled containers cannot weigh more than 30 pounds.

If there are branches in the container, they must not be more than 3 feet long, and they must be bundled and tied for manageable pickup.

Jenkins seniors

Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization meets the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions. The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St.

Pittston Twp. refuse and

recycling reminders

Pittston Twp.’s refuse permit and garbage bag sale has concluded. Anyone who hasn’t purchased a permit should contact the municipal building at 570-654-0161.

Garbage collection days are Friday of each week for all of Pittston Twp. Recycling days will continue to be Friday of alternating weeks.

Pittston Twp. sewer bills

Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority reminds residents the sewer bills can be paid by calling 877-830-0596.

Residents also are reminded they must obtain a sewer permit before starting to excavate for connection to the new sewer main.

Furthermore, the $1,432 tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full.

Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Call 570-655-8747 for an appointment.

Pittston Twp. meeting

The monthly meeting of the Pittston Twp. Board of Supervisors will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the municipal building, 421 Broad St. Call 570-654-0161 for information.

Jenkins Twp. Board of Supervisors meets at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman, at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is Oct. 10.
