The autumn season began a little while ago and that means fall foliage and falling leaves. There is nothing quite like children running and jumping into big piles of leaves and the smell of autumn in the cool, crisp air. Although, getting rid of all of those leaves could be a tedious job, Pittston Twp. is doing its part to help out.
The township will hold leaf waste pickup Monday, Nov. 19, for Upper and Lower Browntown, Cork Lane, including Tedrick and Market streets west of the bypass, Stauffer Heights, Center, Laurel, Doty and Mill streets, Horizon Estates and Stauffer Pointe. Tuesday, Nov. 20, collection will be in Butler Heights and Route 315, Suscon, Pocono Ridge Estates, Houston City, Glendale, Route 502 and Quail Hill. Call the municipal building for pick up at 570-654-0161, at least 24 hours prior to pick up, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Jenkins Twp. reminds landlords tenant registration forms are now past due.
A new ordinance requires all landlords to file reports listing all rentable units, tenants or occupiers and any change requiring occupancy permits and inspections of all rental units prior to occupancy. The township sent out letters to explain the ordinance in detail. If you did not submit your registration form, second notices are being sent out.

Jenkins Crime Watch
The next Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.
The Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, for Veterans Day.
The township is now selling hats. They come in purple and yellow and cost $10. You may purchase one at municipal building weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The township’s zoning and building department reminds anyone making improvements and additions they must obtain proper permits. Call the municipal building at 570-654-3315 for information.
The township reminds all residents who have alarm systems that payments are due. If you did not receive a letter and have an alarm system, please call 570-654-3315.
Jenkins Twp. Supervisors thank everyone who helped with and attended the Halloween party, with special thanks to Cindy Romanski, Denise Roxby, Libby and Robby Linskey and Linda and Joe Casale. According to the board, the event was a great success due to their hard work and dedication.
Pittston Twp. notices
Pittston Twp. residents are reminded that the placement of any portable basketball goals or stands on any township roadway is strictly prohibited between Nov. 1 and March 31. Township road maintenance trucks have been damaged during snow plowing operations due to collisions with these types of equipment on township-owned roadways.
Also, Pittston Twp. wishes to remind its residents that no one, under any circumstances, may dispose of electronic devices or their components with their municipal solid waste. Electronics include desktop computers, laptop computers, video game consoles, microwave ovens and especially televisions. For information, please call the municipal building at 570-654-0161.

The 2018 Pittston Area school tax bills are in face value for payment until Nov. 30.
The tax office at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., will now be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Special arrangements may be made by calling Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock at 570-654-9710. Payments can be sent anytime in the mail or dropped off at 3 Laflin Road. The postmark will be accepted as payment date. If a receipt is required, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with payment.
Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte will now have office hours from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays at her home office, 12 E. Oak St. Appointments also may be made by calling 570-654-8807.

Jenkins Twp. Hose Co. news
Jenkins Twp. wishes to remind everyone that Daylight Saving’s Time is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
The Jenkins Twp. Volunteer Hose Company is conducting its 2018 fundraising drive. Approximately 70 percent of the operating budget is supported by donations from Jenkins Twp. and Yatesville residents and businesses. It is through these donations that the volunteer fire department is able to continue operations. If you have not received a mailer, please contact the Jenkins Twp. Jenkins yard waste
Jenkins Twp. yard waste is picked up every Thursday.
Yard waste bins are on sale for $11 each. Residents are reminded to put yard waste in the appropriate containers. Containers must have perforations on the bottom, handles on each side and cannot have a lid on top. They may not have rims on the top, wheels on the bottom, or exceed 20 gallons. Filled containers cannot weigh more than 30 pounds.
If there are branches in the container, they must not be more than 3 feet long, and they must be bundled and tied for manageable pickup.

Garbage collection days are Friday of each week for all of Pittston Twp. Recycling days are Friday of alternating weeks.
Pittston Twp. sewer bills
Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority reminds residents the sewer bills can be paid by calling 877-830-0596.
Residents also are reminded they must obtain a sewer permit before starting to excavate for connection to the new sewer main. Furthermore, the $1,432 tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full. Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Call 570-655-8747 for an appointment.
