Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers! I hope everyone is doing well and doing their best to enjoy their day in these strange times. Mother’s Day will surely be special and unique this time, not only because of the circumstances surrounding the day, but for how most of us will celebrate.

Mother’s Day in my family wasn’t observed by going out to restaurants or other stereotypical activities. It typically marked the beginning of our celebrations, which lasted longer than just one day. Often, the holiday would fall on my brother’s birthday, and if not, a few days before. On top of that, my brother, sister, and mother all have birthdays that all fall within one week of each other. For us, Mother’s Day signalled the start of so many reasons to celebrate and appreciate happy times together. This day would lead to birthdays, Memorial Day, the end of school and the start of summer.

As social distancing restrictions are beginning to ease and change, it seems the holiday, once again, brings with it renewed excitement, hope and a fresh start. Happy birthday to you three, and again, happy Mother’s Day!
