Fall is definitely here, everyone, and the season brings with it spooky monsters, ghouls and goblins for Halloween.

Pittston Twp.’s Halloween party is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at St. Joseph Marello Parish Center, 237 William St., Pittston. The party will include music, dancing, food, refreshments, door prizes and, of course, a Halloween costume contest. Anyone who attends is asked to please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the local food bank. For information, please call the Pittston Twp. Municipal Building at 570-654-0161.

Jenkins Twp.’s Halloween party also is scheduled for noon Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St. All children from the township are welcome. Food and refreshments will be available. Prizes will be given away and there also will be a costume contest to determine which contest is the funniest, scariest, most original, and ugliest and cutest. New polling place

Attention to all residents of Pittston Twp., the polling place where citizens go to vote will change for residents who live in the Suscon and Glendale sections of Pittston Twp. The new polling place will be located at the Dupont Department of Public Works Garage, 150 Commerce Road.

The change will officially take place for the general election, taking place Tuesday, Nov. 5.

PTAA Smile fundraiser

Pittston Twp. Ambulance Association is hosting a fundraiser that is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.

The PTAA is hosting a fundraiser through the AmazonSmile Foundation website.

Smile.Amazon.com is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same selection of products as Amazon.com. The only difference is when you shop at Smile.Amazon.com, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates a small percentage of your purchase price on eligible items to a charitable organization of your choice, such as the PTAA.

To participate, go to Smile.Amazon.com, log in with your Amazon username and password, and in the search bar type in Pittston Twp. Ambulance Association. The name will appear and the year it started, 1977. Once you’ve selected it, the website will redirect you to Amazon.com, where you go about your normal shopping.

Jenkins zoning information

Jenkins Twp. Zoning Officer JoElle Dougherty reminds residents that work being done on your property, such as house additions, decks, pools, sidewalks and driveways, may require permits. Building permits are required for these as well as roof, window, plumbing and electrical work.

Notice also is given to all businesses in the township that signs cannot be placed on poles or in the ground anywhere within Jenkins Twp. Doing so is considered a violation and is subject to fines.

Pittston Twp. yard waste

and bulk collections

Yard waste will be picked up in Pittston Twp. the first and third Tuesday of the month in the areas of Browntown, Cork Lane, Tedrick and Market streets, west of the bypass, Stauffer Heights, Center Street, Laurel Street, Doly Street, Mill Street, Horizon Estates and Stauffer Pointe.

The second and fourth Tuesday of the month, yard waste will be picked up in the areas of Butler Heights and Route 315, Suscon Road, Pocono Ridge Estates, Houston City, Glendale, Route 502 and Quail Hill.

Yard waste must be in open containers or paper bags.

The following cannot be picked up: rocks, concrete, stone, tree stumps, lumber, plastics, plastic bags and ashes.

To schedule a collection, contact the municipal building at 570-654-0161 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. the day before.

Pittston Twp. residents are reminded bulk item collection is limited to 12 items per year with a yellow sticker. Bulk item pickup is allowed one per month per residence.

Jenkins Twp. yard waste

Jenkins Twp.’s red yard waste containers are available for sale for $11 each at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Yard waste will be picked up every Thursday. Residents are reminded to put yard waste in the appropriate containers.

Containers must have perforations on the bottom, handles on each side and cannot have a lid on top. They may not have rims on the top, wheels on the bottom or exceed 20 gallons.

The filled yard waste containers cannot weigh more than 30 pounds.

If there are branches in the container, they must not be more than 3 feet long, and they must be bundled and tied together for manageable pickup.

Notice is being given to any resident caught dumping yard waste in any vacant lot or any municipal property that this is a violation and you will be subject to fines.

Jenkins trash notices

Jenkins Twp. reminds residents anyone who wishes to upgrade their service to the next size bin may do so by bringing proof of the current sticker for the bin size and a copy of the paid invoice to the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Office, 46½ Main St., in Inkerman.

Bulk stickers also are available for purchase. Residents must purchase a full sheet of six stickers for $30. Major credit cards are accepted.

Residents are advised they no longer have to schedule a pickup with County Waste for bulk items. Just place items out Monday evening or by approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday for bulk items to be collected.

Tires, building materials, automobile parts and electronics are not accepted in the bulk collections.

Mattresses and box springs must be bagged and sealed in plastic mattress bags when placed curbside for collection.
