Congratulations are in order as the Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance, which serves Pittston City, Jenkins Twp., Yatesville and Exeter, was recently awarded the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline — EMS Gold Plus Award.

The Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance is a part of an elite group of pre-hospital agencies recognized by the American Heart Association. The award recognizes the Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of pre-hospital care, by ensuring every single patient receives treatment according to nationally accepted recommendations and standards. Congratulations again for receiving such a prestigious award and on behalf of the communities you serve, thank you all for the work you do.

Jenkins Twp. electronics recycling

Jenkins Twp. is hosting this year’s electronics recycling event from Saturday, Aug. 3, through Friday Aug. 16, at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., in Inkerman. Items can be dropped off from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is only one Saturday recycling day, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.

Jenkins Twp. residents will be charged $5 and seniors 65 and older can recycle their items for free. Also, any resident who requires assistance due to an ailment must call the township to make arrangements for the Department of Public Works to come and pick up your items for a fee. All proceeds will be donated to the Pittston Memorial Library, the Care & Concern Free Health Clinic at St. John the Evangelist and the Greater Pittston Food Pantry.

Items that will be accepted are as follows: desktop and laptop computers, keyboards and mouses, printers, cables and cords, calculators, speakers, radios, audio/visual equipment, DVD players and VCRs, gaming systems, speakers, televisions (no projection TVs), fax machines, stereos, telephones or cell phones and scanners.

Anyone caught on camera placing items without a sticker will be prosecuted by the Jenkins Twp. Police Department.

PTAA Smile fundraiser

Pittston Twp. Ambulance Association is hosting a fundraiser that is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. The PTAA is hosting a fundraiser through the AmazonSmile Foundation website.

Smile.Amazon.com is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same selection of products as Amazon.com, the only difference is that when you shop at Smile.Amazon.com, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates a small percentage of your purchase price on eligible items to a charitable organization such as the PTAA.

To participate, go to Smile.Amazon.com, log in with your Amazon username and password, in the search bar type in Pittston Twp. Ambulance Association, the name will appear and the year it started, 1977. Once you’ve selected it, the website will redirect you to Amazon.com where you go about your normal shopping.

The Ambulance Association also is hosting a “What to do in an emergency” public training course. It will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the ambulance station, 24 Bryden St., Pittston Twp. The session will run for approximately one hour and is open to the public.

Topics will be discussed such as how to identify an emergency, personal safety, when to call 911, basic first aid, hands only CPR instruction and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator or AED.

This is a non-certification training course and is free of charge for anyone to attend, but pre-registration is required as class size is limited.

1st Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Memorial Golf Tournament

The 1st Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Memorial Fund of the Luzerne Foundation will host its 11th annual golf tournament.

The golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, at San Spring Golf Course in Drums. Registration is at 7 a.m. with shotgun start at 8.

Cost is $75, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, dinner and prizes.

Jenkins zoning information

Jenkins Twp. Zoning Officer JoElle Dougherty reminds residents that work being done on your property may require permits, such as additions, decks, pools, sidewalks and driveways. Building permits are required for these as well as roof, window, plumbing and electrical work.

Notice also is given to all businesses in the township that signs cannot be placed on poles or in the ground anywhere in Jenkins Twp. Doing so is considered a violation and is subject to fines.

Pittston Twp. meeting

Pittston Twp. Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the municipal building, 421 Broad St., Meetings are normally held the third Monday of the month.

Jenkins meetings

Jenkins Twp. lists the following upcoming township meetings:

Jenkins Twp. Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. The board of supervisors normally meets the second Wednesday of every month.

Jenkins Twp. Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15.

The planning commission normally meets the third Thursday of every month.

All meetings will be held at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Jenkins Crime Watch

Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St. in Inkerman.

The Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch’s meeting schedule has changed and meetings are now held the first Wednesday of every month.

Jenkins seniors

Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizen Organization’s next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St.

The group normally meets the third Tuesday of every month.
