Jenkins Twp. has a few reminders for residents. First, Monday, May 14, Laflin Road will be closed at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing beginning at 8 a.m. The work will last a few days and there will be detours since all of Laflin Road will be closed.
Also, the township wishes to remind everyone that the new sign at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building is up and running as of Thursday, May 3. Please check the sign for all of the latest municipal information, which will be posted on the new digital sign.
Residents are also reminded to pay their refuse/recycling bill. As of May 1, a $20 late fee has been added to the balance. You may pay your bill at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. If this is an inconvenience, you may mail your payment in with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and a receipt and sticker will be mailed back to you.
Lastly, yard waste will be picked up every Thursday. Residents are reminded to put yard waste in the appropriate containers.
Containers must have perforations on the bottom, handles on each side and cannot have a lid on top. They may not have rims on the top, wheels on the bottom, or exceed 20 gallons. The filled containers cannot weigh more than 30 pounds. If there are branches in the container, they must not be more than 3 inches long, and they must be bundled and tied together for a manageable pickup. Jenkins spaghetti dinner
The Jenkins Twp. Veterans Memorial Committee is hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner to raise funds for a memorial monument in the township. The benefit is scheduled for 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St., Jenkins. The event will include dine-in dinners which include spaghetti, meatballs, salad and rolls, as well as coffee, water and dessert. Takeout dinners also available.
Donation is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5 to 10, and free for kids under 5. Takeouts cost $10. Raffle baskets also will be available during the benefit. For information, please call the municipal building at 570-654-3315.
Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization usually schedules its meetings for the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions. This month is one of those exceptions. The meeting has been changed to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, because of Election Day. The group will meet at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St.
Congratulations are in order as this meeting will mark the 40th anniversary of the organization. A dinner will be held that night to mark the special occasion.

Pittston Twp. refuse
Pittston Twp.’s refuse permit and garbage bag sale has concluded. Anyone who hasn’t purchased a permit should contact the municipal building at 570-654-0161.
Township residents are reminded the maximum number of bags a household may receive during the fiscal year, June 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019, is 208 bags, a maximum of four refuse bags per week.
Garbage pickup days will continue to be Friday of each week for all of Pittston Twp.
Recycling days will continue to be Friday of alternating weeks.

The Jenkins Twp. Lions Club is selling long-handle corn brooms for $10 each. Brooms can be picked up at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 461/2 Main St., Inkerman, Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

Pittston Twp. sewer bills
Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority reminds residents the sewer bills can now be paid by calling 877-830-0596.
Residents also are reminded they must obtain a sewer permit before starting to excavate for connection to the new sewer main. Furthermore, the tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full in the amount of $1,432.
Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. If this is an inconvenience, please call 570-655-8747 for an appointment.
Pittston Twp. H.S. reunion
Pittston Twp. All-Class Reunion Committee recently met to formulate plans for the reunion, to be held at the pavilion at Tony Attardo Park on Bryden Street, Pittston Twp., on Saturday, Sept. 1. The next planning meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Savo’s Pizza. The reunion is open to anyone who attended Pittston Twp. schools or who lives in the township. Jenkins Crime Watch news

County and municipal tax are now in face period. Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock will collect taxes at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman, from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.
Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte will have office hours from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays at her home office, 12 E. Oak St., Pittston Twp.
