Jenkins Twp. Lions Club will host its annual ham dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Jenkins Hose Company, 2 Second St.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for the children.

Jenkins Twp. Lions Club also recently announced the winners of its 33rd annual scholarship program. The first place winner is Jennifer Loughney, second place is Denise Pinto and third place winner is Julie Ann Silinskie.

Congratulations to all of the winners of the program and good luck as you start your freshman year in college.

Rental property ordinance

Jenkins Twp. recently passed Ordinance No. 003 of 2018, governing rental properties in the township.

This ordinance requires all landlords to file reports listing all rentable units, tenants or occupiers and any change requiring occupancy permits and inspections of all rental units prior to occupancy.

The township will send out letters to explain the ordinance in more detail. All landlords or owners must fill out the enclosed registration form that comes with the letter and submit the fee owed.

All rental properties are required to have registration forms submitted to the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Office or at If you have any questions, please call the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building at 570-654-3315 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Pittston Twp. board vacancy

Pittston Twp. is looking for a new supervisor, as Barbara Attardo has stepped down from her position on the board of supervisors.

Letters of interest are being accepted for the board vacancy. Letters must be received at the municipal building, 421 Broad St., no later than Sept. 10.

All individuals submitting a letter of interest must be registered voters in the township.

The term being filled runs until Jan. 6, 2020.

Tax reminder

The 2018 Pittston Area school taxes have been mailed out to residents of Jenkins and Pittston townships and are within the rebate period.

Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock will collect taxes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman. If these hours are inconvenient, appointments can be made by calling 570-654-9710.

Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte will have office hours from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at her home office, 12 E. Oak St. Appointments can be made by calling 570-654-8807.

Taxes will remain in the rebate period until Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Jenkins Twp. announcements

Jenkins Twp. wishes for all residents to know the Department of Public Works employees are working diligently to respond to all of the road repair requests. There are 17 square miles of roads within the township and only three department employees. They appreciate your patience and understanding as they work to make repairs.

The township’s zoning and building department reminds anyone making improvements and additions that they must obtain proper permits. Call the municipal building at 570-654-3315 for information.

The township also reminds all residents who have alarm systems, they will receive a letter notifying them payments are due.

Jenkins yard waste

Yard waste bins are on sale for $11 each. Yard waste will be picked up in Jenkins Twp. every Thursday.

Residents are reminded to put yard waste in the appropriate containers. Containers must have perforations on the bottom, handles on each side and cannot have a lid on top. They may not have rims on the top, wheels on the bottom, or exceed 20 gallons.

The filled yard waste containers cannot weigh more than 30 pounds. If there are branches in the container, they must not be more than 3 feet long, and they must be bundled and tied together for manageable pickup.

Jenkins seniors

Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization meets the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions. The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St.

Pittston Twp. refuse and

recycling reminders

Pittston Twp.’s refuse permit and garbage bag sale has concluded. Anyone who hasn’t purchased a permit should contact the municipal building at 570-654-0161.

Garbage collection days are Friday of each week for all of Pittston Twp.

Recycling days will continue to be Friday of alternating weeks.

Pittston Twp. sewer bills

Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority reminds residents the sewer bills can now be paid by calling 877-830-0596.

Residents also are reminded they must obtain a sewer permit before starting to excavate for connection to the new sewer main. Furthermore, the $1,432 tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full.

Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Call 570-655-8747 for an appointment.
