It’s no secret there has been a renaissance on Main Street in Pittston. Painted murals grace the walls of the downtown buildings and modern art fills the once bland street. Now it is time once again for the Second Friday Art Walk and the Pittston Arts Council is doing something new this month. From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, an array of artists and musicians will take over Main Street to show off their skills and talents.
However, this month is the first time the Pittston Arts Council will host its own art exhibits, displaying personal, original and collected works of art. One of the exhibits will be inside Callahan’s Cafe, 69 S. Main St., and the other will be across the street inside Tuxedo by Sarno, 48 S. Main St.
According to Judy Greenwald, president, the goal is to introduce the arts council to the people of Pittston.
“I hope everyone gets to see it and understands what the arts council is all about,” Greenwald said. “We’ve been talking about it for a while and it just became available this year.”
The art exhibits will open Friday, Aug. 10, and remain there through the Tomato Festival, until Sunday, Aug. 19. For information about the art walk and the exhibit visit www.pittstoncity.org.
