Happy Mother’s Day! To all the moms out there who are celebrating new children in their lives, or celebrating the accomplishments of their growing children, Happy Mother’s Day to you.
This is always a special day for so many, but this year I find myself being grateful for my mother and grandmother, who moved to America from Lebanon many years ago.
It’s strange to think that, if our family members didn’t move to America all those years ago, we might not be here today. Because of this, I have been given many opportunities in life, all of which I’m grateful for every single day.
So, to my mom and grandma, thank you for everything you’ve done and do for us every single day.

Bulk item collection
One bulk item per month can be picked up at no charge. It was listed incorrectly in last week’s column that free bulk item collections could be made weekly.
If you’re interested in this service, call the borough building and leave a message with your name, address, and phone number.
Council reminds residents that the date of the paper shredding has changed. It will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 16. More information to come.
Community yard sale
Hughestown Park and Recreation Committee is sponsoring its fourth annual community yard sale Saturday June 2. Rain date is June 3. Registration fee is $5 per household to have your home address added to the map. There is a $10 fee for vendors and residents who wish to set up tables outside the borough building and pavilion area. There is plenty of space available, so call if you’re interested.
Hughestown Park and Recreation will handle all advertising in local papers and online to spread the word. They will provide a map to visitors indicating the homes that are participating.
Food and drinks will be for sale at the pavilion.

Road and property maintenance
Residents are reminded to please call the borough with any property, trash or road repair issues or questions on sewer fees at 570-654-2061.
Council reminds residents to clean up their properties. Yard waste collection began May 5 and there is regular trash pickup in the borough. Council will be contacting problem residents.
Council thanks to PennDOT for the road repairs in Hughestown!
Council also reminds residents the Salvation Army, located on the San Souci Parkway in Hanover Twp., is collecting TVs. No broken or damaged televisions will accepted. You can drop yours off in the rear of the Hanover Twp. Salvation Army building.

Council sends happy birthday wishes to Mary Grace Pupa, who celebrated her birthday May 7.
Council sends belated happy anniversary wishes to former councilman Dave Stefanoski and his wife, who celebrated 50 years of marriage May 3.
