The Greater Pittston Historical Society recently hosted a program on Pittston’s social and industrial history. The event, held Jan. 11, filled the Cosgrove Room at the Pittston Memorial Library to maximum capacity. As participants in the regional observance of Anthracite Mining Heritage Month, the presenters included F. Charles Petrillo, “The North Branch Canal;” Bob Wolensky, “The Early Pennsylvania Coal Company;” Tony Brooks, “The Butler Family and Their Coal Business,” and Ed Philbin, “The West Pittston and Exeter Railroad and the Stanton Power Plant.” The moderator was Julio Caprari, and a welcome was given by Ron Faraday and Mayor Mike Lombardo.
