It’s officially the start of a new school year, though it may still feel like the summer with the temperatures in the high 80s and 90s. I hope the warm weather will stick around until October so we can enjoy the Wyoming Free Library’s Disney in the Park Halloween event. The library is hosting this event from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Ralph Dailey Memorial Park in West Wyoming.
Children can dress up in their favorite Disney, Pixar or Marvel costume. The event will start with a parade from the West Wyoming Borough Building to the park, where there will be activity stations, refreshments, door prizes and trunk-or-treat.
Parents can call the library to register children for the event. Once registered, the parents will receive an invitation to the event. The invitation will be used to win door prizes.
The library is seeking community organizations to sponsor trunk-or-treat vehicles. Any interested organizations or individuals can call the library to sponsor a vehicle.
Wyoming Free Library will hold a discussion group during the fourth season of “Poldark.” The discussion group will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays starting Monday, Oct. 1.
Please contact the library for information.
West Wyoming collection changes
West Wyoming residents are advised of a new yard waste schedule. To improve services in the borough, County Waste has moved the yard waste collection day from alternating Thursdays to alternating Mondays.
The advantage of a Monday yard waste collection is that residents may use their regular yard waste containers and are not required to use County Waste containers for yard waste collection.
The schedule is as follows:
Monday, Sept. 10, yard waste pickup will be from Eighth Street to the Exeter line. Monday, Sept. 17, yard waste pickup will be in the Atherton Park section.
Yard waste collection will continue to alternate each Monday until Nov. 5.
If there are any questions, please call the borough at 570-693-1311.
A bulk pickup will be held Monday, Oct. 8.

Exeter collection reminders
Exeter Borough is now offering single stream recycling. All recyclable items can now be placed in the same container and can be placed out weekly. Pickup will still be Mondays.
A flyer is in the white rural mailbox in front of the borough building with a list of what can and cannot be put out. Everything on the calendar is still recyclable, with the exception of shredded paper, which will now go out with your regular garbage. Also, items are on the new list that were not picked up before.
Yard waste will still be collected Thursdays. Regular garbage is collected Wednesdays.
Please do not use the yellow recycling bins for garbage. Place your bags in regular garbage cans. There is a three-bag limit no matter what size the bag is, as long as it is under 30 pounds. Don’t place several small bags in your can. Condense them into a larger bag.
Placing the garbage in a refuse container reduces the likelihood of an animal opening it. If animals do open your garbage, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to clean it up.
Refuse, recyclables and yard waste are to be placed curbside the night before pickup or by 6 a.m. the morning of collection.
