Wyoming Free Library is hosting a Krispy Kreme Doughnut fundraiser. The cost is $8 per dozen of glazed doughnuts and $7 per half dozen of flavored doughnuts (chocolate iced, lemon filled, raspberry filled or cream filled). The sale ends Thursday, Oct. 25. Doughnuts can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30. Orders can be placed at the circulation desk. Money is due when the order is placed.

In other library news, a children’s produce market will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The market is open to all Luzerne County families with children. Registration is required and ends at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22.  Applications are available at the library.

Wyoming Free Library will hold Amnesty Month in October. Patrons can bring in cans of grain free dog food and paper towels, along with their overdue items and have the fines waived. Fines will not be waived for previous fines, damaged or lost materials, lost library cards or items that belong to other libraries in Luzerne County.  People can donate even if they don’t have overdue materials. All items will be donated to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge. 

Wyoming Free Library’s Disney in the Park Halloween event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Ralph Dailey Memorial Park in West Wyoming. Children can dress up in their favorite Disney, Pixar or Marvel costume. The event will start with a parade from the West Wyoming Borough Building to the park, where there will be activity stations, refreshments, door prizes and a trunk or treat.

Parents can call the library to register children for the Halloween event. Once registered, the parents will receive an invitation to the event. The invitation will be used to win door prizes.

The library is seeking community organizations to sponsor trunk or treat vehicles. Any interested organizations or individuals can call the library to sponsor a vehicle.

The library’s “Poldark” discussion group will continue to meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays during the season. Please contact the library for information.

West Wyoming yard waste

West Wyoming residents are advised of a new yard waste schedule. To improve services in the borough, County Waste has moved the yard waste collection day from alternating Thursdays to alternating Mondays.

The advantage of a Monday yard waste collection is that residents may use their regular yard waste containers and are not required to use County Waste containers for yard waste collection.

Monday, Oct. 8, yard waste pickup will be from Eighth Street to the Exeter line. Monday, Oct. 15, yard waste pickup will be in the Atherton Park section. Yard waste collection continues to alternate each Monday until Nov. 5.

W. Wyoming bulk collection

West Wyoming will hold a bulk pickup Monday, Oct. 8. There is a limit of two items per household.

The following items will not be accepted: Freon containing items, tires, paint and lacquers, stains, pesticides, hazardous waste, construction materials over 50 pounds, brick, block, concrete, ammunition, car/truck batteries and automotive parts. Electronics also will not be accepted, including TVs, computers, lap tops, keyboards, printers, fax machines, telephones, mouse or towers.

Residents may place out small items in boxes as long as it does not exceed 5 cubic feet.

St. Barbara’s Taste

of the Parish

The Parish of St. Barbara, Exeter, will hold its first culinary event, Taste of the Parish, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Anthony’s hall. Enjoy the culinary experience of the year and spend the evening savoring dishes created by the parish’s very own family chefs and various local restaurants. Gift basket raffles also will be featured. Wyoming Area Catholic news

Wyoming Area Catholic School is proud to announce the student council officers and representatives for the 2018-19 school year: President Hayden Foland, Vice president Vincent Contardi, Secretary Kendall Morris and Treasure Anna Weiss.

The Cougar Cash program at Wyoming Area Catholic School is in progress. Gift cards and certificates for local stores will be sold on a first come, first served basis from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays.

Gift cards/certificates are available each week for the following local businesses: Gerrity’s, Weis/Mr. Z’s, Price Chopper, Bo Brothers, Redner’s, Wegmans, Cold Case Beverage, Pizza Perfect, Grotto Pizza, Superior Plus, Schiel’s, McDonalds, Sabatini’s Pizza Sapphire Salon, Quinn’s, Perkins and Crest Cleaners. Orders for other merchants available through the program will be taken Wednesday morning and will be available for pickup the following Wednesday morning.

Church holiday bus trip

Wyoming United Methodist Church will host a bus trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse Dinner Theatre to see the new show “Christmas in the Air” on Wednesday, Nov. 14, for the luncheon show. The trip will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the church, 376 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Cost is $110, which includes show, motor coach, full-course meal, tax and gratuity. Wyoming sign ordinance

Wyoming Borough reminds residents any signs located in or extending into the public right-of-way, such as on tree lawns, are prohibited. This includes political signs.

Exeter collection reminders

Exeter Borough collects single stream recycling every Monday. Yard waste is collected Thursdays. Garbage is collected Wednesdays.

Do not use the yellow recycling bins for garbage. There is a three-bag limit no matter what size the bag is, as long as it is under 30 pounds.

Items are to be placed curbside the night before pickup or by 6 a.m. the morning of.
