Parishioners of St. Joseph Marello have begun planning the annual summer picnic. The event will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. nightly, Thursday, July 12, through Saturday, July 14, on the church grounds, 237 William St., Pittston.
The picnic will feature different ethnic foods, from sausage and peppers to haluski. The event also will feature children’s games, a large indoor flea market, basket raffles and a cash prize raffle. The cash prize raffle will be drawn Saturday night with four prizes awarded: a $1,000 cash prize, a $500 cash prize, and two $250 cash prizes.
The event has nightly entertainment featuring Sweet Pepper and the Long Hots on Thursday, Flaxy Morgan on Friday and Pop Star Drive, formerly known as AM Radio, on Saturday.

Wesley Village open house
United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus, announces plans for the expansion of its independent living cottages. The new cottages will offer an open floor plan with modern kitchens, upgraded amenities and fixtures, safety features, covered patio or sun room options, oversized garage and several upgrades and flooring options. This gives the resident the chance to make the cottage their own idea of home.

Jenkins Twp. Little League coach pitch tournament
Jenkins Twp. Little League is hosting its 17th annual coach pitch tournament July 13-20. This is a double elimination tournament and regular season game rules apply. Players must not be older than league age 8 for the spring season and must have been on the roster for a regular season coach pitch team. Unfortunately, minor players will not be allowed to participate. All teams must have a minimum of nine and maximum of 14 players.
Cost is $125 per team. Checks can be made out to Jenkins Twp. Little League. All team rosters must be submitted to tournament director Mike Shannon at 570-262-4894, or email@example.com.
There is a mandatory tournament meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the Little League, 2 May St. All teams must be present.
Jenkins Twp. announcements
Jenkins Twp. announced work is progressing on sports fields in the township. Diamond Tex playing surface has been applied to the infields and a new waterline has been installed at the soccer fields.
The township also wishes for all residents to know the Department of Public Works employees are working diligently to respond to all of the road repair requests. There are 17 square miles of roads within the township and only three department employees. They appreciate your patience and understanding as they work to make repairs.
The township’s zoning and building department reminds anyone making improvements and additions that they must obtain proper permits. Call the municipal building at 570-654-3315 for information.
The township also reminds all residents who have alarm systems, they will receive a letter notifying them payments are due.
A reminder to all residents of Jenkins and Pittston townships, the county municipal tax face period ended June 11. Penalty period will be through Dec. 31.

Pittston Twp. all-class reunion
Pittston Twp. All-Class Reunion Committee met recently to formulate plans for the reunion, which will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Anthony (Tony) Attardo Municipal Park on Bryden Street, Pittston Twp. The reunion is open to anyone who attended Pittston Twp. schools at any time or anyone who lives in Pittston Twp.
The next planning meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday, July 16, at Perkins Restaurant.

Jenkins yard waste
Yard waste bins are on sale for $11 each. Yard waste will be picked up in Jenkins Twp. every Thursday. Residents are reminded to put yard waste in the appropriate containers.
Containers must have perforations on the bottom, handles on each side and cannot have a lid on top. They may not have rims on the top, wheels on the bottom, or exceed 20 gallons.
The filled containers cannot weigh more than 30 pounds. If there are branches in the container, they must not be more than 3 feet long, and they must be bundled and tied together for manageable pickup.

Pittston Twp. sewer bills
Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority reminds residents the sewer bills can now be paid by calling 877-830-0596.
Residents also are reminded they must obtain a sewer permit before starting to excavate for connection to the new sewer main. Furthermore, the tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full in the amount of $1,432.
