It might be autumn, but the Sons of the American Legion are bringing back a summertime favorite this weekend.
Duryea Sons of the American Legion Squadron 585 will have a homemade potato pancake sale from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585, 329 Main St.
The cost is $2.50 for three potato pancakes. Extra sour cream is 50 cents.
Takeouts will be available. Pre-orders will not be accepted.
Duryea Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227 will have live entertainment throughout the month at the post home, 492 Stephenson St.
Saturday, Oct. 5, the veterans are pleased to welcome Blue Moon Sun, which will play classic rock hits from 7 to 11 p.m.
At 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, Chris Shrive and Ashley Marie from Flatland Ruckus will play an acoustic set of your country favorites.
Duryea Street Department collection schedule for the week of Oct. 6 is as follows: garbage, Monday, Oct. 7, and Tuesday, Oct. 8, and yard waste, Friday, Oct. 11. There is no recycling this week.
The department reminds residents leaves will not be collected if they are in bins or bags. All leaves must be raked and piled curbside to be picked up by the borough’s leaf vac truck.
Sewer Authority meeting
Duryea Borough Sewer Authority will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the municipal building, 315 Main St. The public is invited to attend.

Revival meetings at
Independent Bible Church
Independent Bible Church of Duryea will host revival meetings with evangelist Barry Webb of Barry Webb Evangelistic Ministries at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. and at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, and at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, through Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the church, 328 Main St. The public is invited.
Knights of Columbus Council 5940 will lead a public recitation of the rosary at noon Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Healey Memorial Playground, 398 Foote Ave., Duryea. The Knights of Columbus are dedicated to promoting devotion to the rosary, especially during October, which is dedicated to praying the rosary in the Catholic church. Little League meeting
Greater Pittston Area Little League, consisting of Avoca/Dupont, Duryea and Pittston City, will have a general meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227, 492 Stephenson St.
The upcoming merger of the three leagues will be discussed at this time. All officers from each league are required to attend. The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in volunteering in any capacity.
Community trunk or treat and haunted house
Duryea Borough will host its annual trunk or treat from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church parking lot, 529 Stephenson St.
In conjunction with trunk or treat, the Holy Rosary School eighth grade class will host a haunted house from 7 to 9 p.m. in the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Rectory. Admission is $2. All proceeds will benefit St. Joseph’s Center, Scranton.

SAL Halloween party
Duryea Sons of the American Legion Squadron 585 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227 will host a children’s Halloween costume party from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the VFW, 492 Stephenson St.
Children ages infant to 12 years old are invited to attend and will be treated to hot dogs, pizza, snacks, soft drinks and candy. There also will be a costume contest with prizes.
All guests must pre-register at the VFW or the American Legion by Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Legion adult Halloween party
Duryea American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585 will host a Halloween party for adults from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 26, at the post home, 329 Main St. There will be a costume contest with cash prizes and live entertainment by The Rock and Roll Guys.
Sportsman’s bingo at
Germania Hose Company
Germania Hose Company will host a sportsman’s bingo Sunday, Nov. 3, at Germania, 430 Foote Ave. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and games start at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door, if space is available. Tickets include 16 regular games and a dabber. There also will be five specials at $10 per game. Each winner will receive a prize. In the event of multiple winners, a high ball will win the prize.
There also will be 50/50 raffles, pull tab bingos and a concession area for additional purchase.
The game prizes include a Ruger American Predator 22-.250, Sig Sauer P365 Compact 9mm, Henry Varminter Lever 17 HMR, Canik TP9SFX 9mm, Rock Island 1911 GI 45ACP, Remington 870 Express with Turkey Camo, Remington Model Seven .308 and Smith and Wesson Bodyguard with Laser .380, four Pig Hunts from North Mountain Outfitter’s and four $350 gift cards to Lonesome Road Archery. The five special games will include additional rifles, handguns and crossbows as prizes.
All winners must redeem their prize. All local, state and federal laws apply for all firearm winners.
