Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

The party will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the post home. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Music will be provided by Millennium from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The bar will remain open until 12:30 a.m. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening.

Donations are $30 per person. For tickets and reservations, please call Bob Lopata at the VFW or call 570-654-9104. Deadline for reservations is Friday, Feb. 8.

VFW meetings

VFW Post 4909 will hold it monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the post home. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food and refreshments will be served after both meetings.

Baseball registration

Dupont Youth Baseball Organization will conduct registration and sign-ups for the upcoming 2019 T-ball/baseball season. Sign-ups will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the rear hall of the Dupont VFW on Main St. in Dupont.

Registration is open to all boys and girls ages 3 through 7. There are no residential restrictions to play in Dupont so all children from the area are welcome.

There is no registration fee this season and no additional fundraisers are required. This season the league will operate based solely upon donations and fundraisers held locally by members of the DYBO volunteer group.

Coaches and volunteers are needed and welcome.

Hose company breakfast

Dupont Volunteer Hose Company’s 54th annual all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 3, at the hose company home on Main Street. Cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

The Dupont Volunteer Hose Company meets the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the company home on Main Street. New members are always welcome.

Crime Watch news

Dupont Crime Watch will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Dupont Municipal Building.

Dupont Crime Watch offers emergency registration forms which will be kept on file with the Crime Watch and the police department. Forms are available at the municipal office Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Penguin visit

Stefan Elliot of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will visit PNC Bank’s Dupont Branch, 281 S. Main St., from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4.

Refuse and recycling

collections

Deadline for refuse/recycling registration is Jan. 31.

Dupont Borough has changed its recycling collections from single stream to dual stream. The new recycling schedule which is now in effect is as follows:

The first and third Wednesday is collection of plastic, cans and bottles only. Please use the new 32-gallon containers for these recyclables. The regular rectangular containers will be used the second and fourth Wednesday of the month for paper only.

The 2019 refuse bags are now available for purchase. Costs is $95 for seniors; $125 for individual/family and $160 for commercial. There will be additional billing to large commercial properties for glass disposal. Glass disposal for residential properties is included in their cost.

Each resident will receive a 32-gallon recycling container and lid when their 2019 refuse payment is made. Residents will be asked to sign for the 32-gallon containers and also can update their phone numbers and email addresses for the borough files. Residents are reminded of the weight limit.

The 2019 fee includes 52 refuse bags, recycling pickup and yard waste collection. Large yard waste disposal projects, such as tree cutting or bush removal, will be at a fee of $15 for small items and $25 for large items.

Special collection dates will be set during 2019 for electronics and tires.

Holy Mother of Sorrows news

Holy Mother of Sorrows is sponsoring an evening of games at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in the church hall. The parish would like to invite everyone, young and old, to come for an evening of games and fellowship. There will be Pokeno, “Dupont Pitch,” card games and other board games for your enjoyment, or you can just get out for an evening and share some conversation with your fellow parishioners.

Organizers ask that you bring a light snack for all to enjoy if you plan on attending. The sign-up sheet will be in the church vestibule.

Holy Mother of Sorrows YMS of R’s annual installation dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the Frank M. Bednash Hall.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will mail parishioner contribution statements for 2018 by the end of January. If you do not receive a verified copy of your contributions to the church, please notify Kathy in the parish office. Contribution statements reflect donations given via contribution envelopes, checks and online giving.
