Veterans Day services
AMVETS Post 189 will hold Veterans Day services at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. All are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served after the services.
Polish American Citizens Club will meet
The Polish American Citizens Club on Elm Street, Dupont, will hold its regular monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the club home. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Sacred Heart news
Sacred Heart of Jesus will host an Ecumenical Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. The Rev. Zbigniew Dawid, pastor of Holy Mother of Sorrows Church, will deliver a homily. A collection will be taken in support of the Greater Pittston Food Bank. A social will follow in the church hall. All are invited to participate. Volunteers are asked to prepare desserts for the social.
Holy Mother of Sorrows will celebrate a Thanksgiving Eve Mass at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Sacred Heart of Jesus will celebrate Thanksgiving Services at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.
Sportsmen’s club meeting
Elm Street Sportsmen’s Club will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Polish American Citizens Club, Elm Street. John Lizak will preside.
Dupont Council, at its special meeting Oct. 25, voted to increase the 2019 refuse fees by $10. The new senior rate will be $95; family rate, $125, and commercial rate, $160.
Dupont will change to a dual stream collection of recyclables. Commingled plastics and cans will be collected the first and third Wednesdays of each month and paper and cardboard will be collected the second and fourth Wednesdays. There will be no recycling on the fifth Wednesday of the month.
Council is working with the recycling center as to whether glass will be accepted.
Dupont Borough received grant funding through the Department of Environmental Protection Agency for new 32 gallon recycling containers. The borough’s local match for this grant may be passed on to the residents. The new containers will be available to residents in 2019. The recycling containers are property of the borough and residents will be required to sign a receipt for the container.
Landlords are reminded to update the tenant listing with the borough by the end of November. Forms are available on the borough website or contact the borough secretary at 570-655-6216.
Permits are needed for all types of work, including driveways, garages, sheds, roofs, electric, plumbing, replacing doors or windows, and all types of home remodeling, change of use, additions, etc. Check the borough website or contact BHW Construction Consultants at 570-270-3900 to check if permits are required.
Dupont Public Works Department has scheduled the last pickup of yard waste on Friday, Nov. 30.
Winter road maintenance worker applications are now being accepted. Dupont Borough will be accepting applications for part time, as needed as plow truck drivers. Please stop by the municipal office for an application. Also, CDL driver applications are being accepted for the refuse and recycling trucks.
Hose company news
The Dupont Volunteer Hose Company will hold election of officers at a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the company home on Main St.
Members also are reminded all fee payments are now due.
The hose company would like thank the community for its generosity to the hose company’s annual fundraiser. Again the community stepped forward to support the local fire department.
The hose company is in need of new volunteers Anyone 18 and older is eligible to become a volunteer firefighter. Stop by the company home for information. The company is also looking into starting a junior firefighter company. More details to follow.
Lions food distribution
The monthly food distribution sponsored by the Dupont Lions Club will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Hall. All qualifying resident of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.
Pittston Area I.C.E. “International Cultural Experience” Club will hold its annual International Food Night at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Pittston Area High School Cafeteria.
Taste cuisine from around the world, including from Greece, India, Poland, Puerto Rico, Italy, Germany, France and the USA. Cost is $6 for students and $8 for adults.
Children’s produce market
The monthly children’s produce market sponsored by Pittston Area School District will be held from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the middle school on New Street, Pittston. The market is available to all families who have children attending school in the Pittston Area School District. No proof of income is required. Food items must be picked up on the day of the food drive.
Families must register by calling the district school their child is attending, one week prior to the distribution.
Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual Christmas party at the post home Saturday, Dec. 8. Millennium will provide the musical entertainment from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. This party is a sell-out every year so please make reservations early by calling the VFW Post. Door prizes will be awarded through the evening.
The Polka Sunday Christmas Party will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the VFW Post. Joe Stanky and the Cadets will be the featured entertainment. Door prizes will be awarded. Polkas are held every Sunday from 2 to 6 unless otherwise specified. Admission is $15, which includes a meal.
Donations of a Christmas gift for veterans from the Gino Merli Center and Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center are greatly appreciated. Drop off your donations at the designated wrapped boxes at the VFW.
The Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual New Year’s Eve party at the post home Monday, Dec. 31. A gala evening is planned with a dinner buffet served from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 to 1:30 a.m. Meat and cheese trays, snacks, coffee and donuts will be available throughout the evening until midnight. Donations is $40 per person. Reservations may be made by seeing Bob at the VFW or calling 570-654-9104.
