Dupont Volunteer Hose Company will hold its 53rd annual all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 4, at the company home on Main Street. This traditional breakfast includes their signature scrambled eggs, pancakes and sausage.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Raffles and theme baskets will be featured. Tickets are available from any member of the company and also will be available at the door on the day of the event.

The hose company will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the company home. The annual pancake breakfast will top the agenda.

Electronics recycling

and paper shredding

The borough will sponsor an electronic recycling drive and document shedding drive from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7. Shedding will be held at the front entrance of the municipal building and the electronics drop off will be behind the municipal building.

There is no cost for document shedding but there will be fees for electronic recycling. Borough officials will post the recycling costs as soon as they are available.

Tax reminder

Tax Collector Joy Tetlak Adelstein announced the 2018 tax bills were issued Feb. 2. The discount period will be Feb. 12 through April 11, followed by the face value period until June 11. Penalty period ends Dec. 31. If you have not received your 2018 tax bill, please contact the tax collector as soon as possible.

Holy Mother of Sorrows fish fry

Holy Mother of Sorrows will sponsor its Lenten fish fry from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the parish hall, Wyoming Avenue. Dinner includes two pieces of fish, fries, vegetable, coleslaw and roll.

Donation is $10. Tickets are available by calling the rectory office at 570-654-4262. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the event.

Driver education classes

Pittston Area School District will offer driver education classes. The class will meet at the Pittston Area High School on Stout Street on the dates listed. The two- part course is made up of 30 hours of classroom instruction at a cost of $150 and six hours of behind the wheel practice at a cost of $150. Driver education is available to any public or non-public school student who resides in the district. Students may take the classroom portion even if they do not have a permit. The classroom portion may help participants become safer drivers even if they already have their permit. Attendance at all classes is mandatory. Checks should be made payable to Pittston Area School District. Please direct all questions to Jim Blaskiewicz at 570-954-6656. Spring class dates for classroom only are: March 5-8, March 12-15, March 19-22 and March 26-28.

Lions Club news

The monthly food distribution sponsored by the Dupont Lions is in need of volunteers who would help bag and sort food items and also help with truck delivery. Helpers are asked to start at 1 p.m. to prepare items for distribution from 4 to 5 p.m. Contact any Lions Club member for additional information.

The next monthly food distribution will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church hall. All qualifying residents of Suscon and Dupont are eligible.

Dupont Lions will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Sacred Heart news

Time to make the pierogies. Sacred Heart of Jesus Church’s annual Lenten pierogi production will continue through Feb. 14. The Women’s Society is asking for help to make the 18,000 pre-ordered potato and cabbage pierogis. Food preparation is done in the church hall. Contact the rectory office at 570-654-3713 for times and information.

A new parish pastoral council and finance council has been formed. Chosen to serve a three-year term on the pastoral council are: Gene Bartosiewicz, Sharon Bartosiewicz, Kimberly Collins, Anthony George, Kevin Krawczyk, Heather Roche, Ed Suchecki, Mary Ann Smithonic and Kathy Vojta. Finance council members are: Gene Bartosiewicz, Lorraine Harmanos, Jack Kuligowski, Jean Oprindick, Jeff Roche and Mark Zakoski.

Sacred Heart will sponsor a flea market May 5-6 at the parish hall. The church will begin collecting the following sometime in April: household items, kitchen items, toys, holiday decorations, books, jewelry and furniture. Electronics and clothing will not be accepted. All money raised from the flea market will benefit the building fund.

Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold a Lenten potato pancake dinner Friday, March 16.

Dupont Progress Committee’s Bunny Bar Hop is Saturday, March 24.

Dupont Lions Club’s annual Easter egg hunt is Saturday, March 31.
