Dupont Youth Baseball Organization’s fourth annual golf tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at Pine Hills Country Club. The Shot Gun Start begins at 8 a.m. Cost is $80 per person and includes green fees and cart, dinner at the Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars, raffles and door prizes. Lions 5K/Party in the Park cancelled

The Dupont Lions 5k Run/Walk and Party in the Park scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, has been cancelled.

Outdoor flea market and Dozynki Festival

Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold an outdoor flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, under a large tent on the church grounds.

To reserve a table, call Lois McHugh at 570-603-9633. Table rentals are $15 each. Anyone needing an additional table can rent a second one for $10. Tables will be supplied by the church. Only 40 tables are available to rent on a first come basis. All reservations must be prepaid prior to the flea market with checks payable to Holy Mother of Sorrows and mailed to 212 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, PA 18641.

Polish foods, including pierogi, potato pancakes, haluski, golabki will be available.

The 43rd annual Dozynki Festival, a traditional Polish festival celebrating the harvest, will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. Only one Mass will be celebrated on Dozynki day, at 10:30 a.m. Blessing of the wreath will be held in the church at noon. Live music will be featured from 2 to 6 p.m. The raffle drawing will be held at 6 p.m.

School taxes

Sue Gregory announces the 2019 school taxes have been mailed. She will have office hours from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Dupont Municipal office. If you are need of an appointment or have not received your tax bill, please contact Gregory at 570-262-4100.

VFW meetings

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at the post home. Many items of importance will be discussed and reports given. Commander Mike Hope will preside. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food and refreshments will be served after both meetings.

VFW Sock Hop dinner dance

The Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold a Sock Hop dinner dance on Saturday, Sept. 14. Millennium will provide music for your listening and dancing pleasure from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. and the bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The donation for a great night of fun is $30 per person. For tickets and reservations, see Bob at the VFW or call Bob at 570-65-9104. Deadline for reservations is Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Pro-life baby shower

A pro-life baby shower sponsored by the Pastoral Outreach Apostolate of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will be held the weekend of Sept. 14-15 to benefit the Wyoming Valley Chapter of Pennsylvanians for Human Life.

Beginning the weekend of Aug. 24, they will begin collecting new, unused baby items, such as sleepers, blankets/afghans, quilts, washcloths and towels, disposable diapers, etc. Clothing is needed in sizes newborn to 24 months. Donations can be dropped off before or after all Masses and can be placed in the play pen located in the church narthex. Monetary donations also will be gratefully accepted and can be placed in the collection basket or sent to the parish office in a marked envelope indicating a donation to the baby shower.

The Pastoral Outreach Apostolate invite the public to attend the mock baby shower in the church hall after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Sacred Heart news

As the parish prepares for the 2019-20 school year, it is in need of adult volunteer catechists and classroom aides. Please consider volunteering for this important apostolate. Anyone interested should contact Nancy Beccaloni, DRE, at 570-451-1903 or the parish office. CCD registration will take place in the church hall from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 1. CCD registration forms are also available in the narthex and at www.sacredheartdupont.com Forms can be printed and mailed along with the registration fee to the parish office or dropped in the collection basket in a marked envelope.

The Rev. Thomas Petro invites all parishioners who volunteered to make the 72nd annual parish picnic such a big success to an appreciation dinner. The dinner will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Dupont Hose Company. A social will begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30. To make a reservation, complete the form available in the weekly church bulletin and submit it no later than Sept. 22. Place your form in the collection basket, mail it, or email it to the parish office. Please do not call the parish office to make reservations.

The parish choir and cantors practice at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays in the church choir loft. New members are encouraged to attend or contact Tony George, music director, if you are interested. Practices will resume Sept. 5.

Several theme baskets from the parish festival remain unclaimed. If you know any of the following individuals, please let them know they won a theme basket: Nancy Wagner, Carolyn Kupchin, Joseph Rikowski, Remy Mondulick, Paulette Sklanka, Bobby Breyureien, Tony Dewit, and Andrea Rogan. Anyone claiming a basket must verify the phone number on the winning ticket at the parish office.

Sacred Heart’s home bound parishioners are reminded they may have Holy Communion brought to them on the first Friday of each month by calling the parish office and requesting this service. Home visitation may be requested for a certain period of recovery time or for a permanent basis.
