Come on out to Dupont’s outdoor movie night Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Dupont Little League Field. The movie starts at 8 p.m. and the event is free to all children and adults.
The featured movie is “The Secret Life of Pets.” Bring your own chairs and blankets. There will be free popcorn for all attendees. You also can bring your own food and drinks. No alcohol is permitted.
The event is sponsored by the Dupont Youth Baseball Organization.
Lions Club 5K
Dupont Lions Club will hold its annual 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Little League Park on Elm Street. Registration forms are available at runsignup.com/Race/PA/Dupont/DupontLionsClub5K and also available at the Dupont Municipal Building or by contacting any Lion. Registration for adult runners is $25 with shirt or $20 without shirt. Children’s registration is $10 with shirt and $5 without shirt. Registration will end Friday, Aug. 23.
The 1-mile run for kids will start at 9 a.m. The 5K run/walk will start at 9:45 a.m. The kids run is open to young adults 13 and younger. Check-in on race day will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
The Lions Club also is seeking sponsors for the run. There is a Gold Level with a donation of $100 and Silver Level with a donation of $50. Gold sponsors will have their business logo printed on the back of the race T-shirts and silver sponsors will have large print name on the race T-shirts. Sponsorship forms are available at the Dupont Municipal Building or by contacting Camryn Lokuta, chairwoman, at 570-540-6954.
Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Dupont Hose Company and the Pittston Area Leo Club Scholarship Fund. All checks are payable to Dupont Lions 5K.
National Night Out
The Dupont/Duryea Neighborhood Crime Watch, in conjunction with the local police departments, will take part in the 10th National Night Out from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Healey Playground in Duryea.
National Night Out is a nationwide annual event designed to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and unity and foster community/police partnership. The event is free to the public and includes presentations and interaction with law enforcement and emergency first responders. There also will be game for all ages.
Sue Gregory, tax collector, announces the 2019 school taxes will be mailed Aug. 19. Gregory will have office hours from 4 to 6 Monday and Wednesdays at the Dupont Municipal Office. If you are need of an appointment or have not received your tax bill, please contact Gregory at 570-262-4100.
Paper shredding and
Paper shredding and electronic recycling will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Dupont Municipal Building. Shredding will be held in front of the borough building and electronic recycling will be held in the rear.
Items that can be recycled free of charge include: desktop and laptop computers, keyboards and mouses, printers and fax machines, cables and cords, cell phone and laptop batteries, calculators and adding machines, ups battery backups, toner and ink cartridges, audio visual equipment, telephones and cell phones with cell phone batteries removed, DVD players and VCRs, gaming systems, string Christmas lights, microwaves and small appliances, metal items and water heaters, exercise equipment, car batteries (sealed lead acid) bed rims, rain spouting and filing cabinets.
Additional items that can be recycled for a fee: washers and dryers, $20; dishwashers, $20; tube type CRT monitors, $15; LCD monitors, $10; televisions under 40 inches, $35 all types; TVs in wooden cabinet, projections over 40 inches, $55; TV tube only, $55; air conditioners, $25; dehumidifiers, $25; refrigerators, $30; floor freezers, $30; ranges/stoves, $20; floor copiers and water coolers, $20; console stereos in cabinet, $35. TVs must be complete. No broken TVs will be accepted.
Destruction services for a fee: hard drive destruction, off-site, $10 per drive, includes a certificate of destruction; document destruction, off-site, $10 per standard paper size box, includes a certificate of destruction.
Payment may be made by cash or checks only. Make checks payable to Responsible Recycling Services or RRS.
Holy Mother of Sorrows outdoor flea market
Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold an outdoor flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, under a large tent of the church grounds.
To reserve a table, call Lois McHugh at 570-603-9633. Table rentals are $15 each. Anyone needing an additional table can rent a second one for $10. Tables will be supplied by the church. Only 40 tables are available to rent on a first come basis. All reservations must be prepaid prior to the flea market with checks payable to Holy Mother of Sorrows and mailed to 212 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, PA 18641.
Polish foods, including pierogi, potato pancakes, haluski, golabki will be available.

The Dupont Youth Baseball Organization would like to thank the community for its support for the 13th annual baseball tournament. This year’s tournament champion was Motorworld.
Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3909 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at the post home. Many items will be discussed and reports will be given by committee members. Commander Mike Hope will preside. Home Association meeting will follow. Food and refreshments will follow after both meetings.
VFW Sock Hop
Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 Home Association will hold a Sock Hop dinner dance Saturday, Sept. 14. Featured entertainment will be Millennium, playing for your listening and dancing pleasure from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. and the bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
