The officers of the Dupont Neighborhood Crime Watch invite all to come and join the group. Not only does the Crime Watch offer informational agendas, meetings include guest speakers from law enforcement, the district attorney’s office and magistrates.

Dues are $1 per year.  Memberships are available at any meeting or by contacting any of the officers. You also can follow the Crime Watch on Facebook. Search for Dupont Neighborhood Crime Watch.

The next meeting of the Crime Watch will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the borough building.

Designated driver

The Brickhouse on Main Street is bringing in 2018 with a new feature at the restaurant.

The Brickhouse is now providing free shuttle service home on Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to 2:30 a.m.

Patrons taking advantage of the free service can leave their cars in the lot overnight. Those taking advantage of the service must be traveling within a 6-mile radius of the Brickhouse.

Medicine disposal

You can safely dispose of unused or expired medicine by dropping them in the prescription collection drop box located inside the Dupont Municipal Building during regular business hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please remove personal information from all bottles.

Acceptable items are: prescriptions, prescription patches and ointments, over- the-counter medications, vitamins, samples and medication for pets.

Non-acceptable items include: thermometers, hydrogen peroxides, inhalers and needles, medications from businesses or clinical sand aerosol cans.

Little League registration

Avoca-Dupont Little League Inc. began online registration for the 2018 spring season Jan. 1. Online registration will run until Feb. 28. Any player returning from last year can register for the coming season online at the league website:

New players to the league must register in person at one of the upcoming in-person registration dates.

The cost to register is $65 for one player and $80 for two players from the same family.

Payment for online registration can be completed using a credit card or pay in person with cash or check. Online registration will automatically add the $50 raffle ticket fundraiser fee.

PA baseball/softball

purse bingo

Pittston Area’s baseball and softball teams are holding a designer purse bingo fundraiser. The event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Eagle McLure Hose Company, 375 Milwaukee Ave., Old Forge. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo games begin at 1 p.m.

There also will be special games, a basket raffle and bake sale. Food and refreshments will be served.

Tickets are $25 each and are available at Joyce Insurance, 9 N. Main St., Pittston. You can also call Kristy Rosiak at 570-479-0031.

VFW meeting

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the post home. Commander Mark Roney will preside.

The Home Association meeting will follow, at which time nominations will be accepted for president, vice president, secretary, three-year director and one-year director.

Food and refreshments will be served after both meetings.

Christmas light removal

Dupont Lions Club will take down the holiday lights starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7. All members are asked to report to the pavilion in the park at 8 a.m.

Dress warmly!

The Dupont Lions Club will hold its first meeting of the new year at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the VFW Post Home.


Refuse bills

The 2018 refuse bills have been mailed in envelopes this year. Due date is Jan. 31.

Bills paid Feb. 1-28 will have a 10 percent late fee added and from March 1-31 there will be another 10 percent late fee. Anyone not paying by April 1 will have their account forwarded to the magistrate for collection.

Municipal office hours during January are extended on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the office if these times are inconvenient.

Dupont Borough Council will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, in the James Cocco Council Chambers.

Snow ordinance

Dupont residents are reminded the snow ordinance will be enforced this year. After a snowfall, no parking will be allowed on the even side of the street. On the second day after a snowfall, no parking will be allowed on the odd side of the street.

Also, snow cannot be thrown onto streets or within intersections.

Sidewalks must be cleaned within 48 hours after snowfall.

Collection container weight

Residents are reminded there is a weight limit on refuse bags and ash containers. Contact the municipal office for information.

Tree collection

Christmas trees will be picked up Fridays.

Blessing of homes

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church offers blessings of homes, which is a Polish custom known as koleda. This pastoral visit will take place during January.

Sacred Heart pierogi sale

Mark you calendars! Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will hold its annual Lenten pierogi sale. The Women’s Society will be taking orders Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14, after all weekend Masses.
