The days are getting longer and warmer. Stay-at-home restrictions are starting to lift and we are beginning to return to a sense of normalcy in our lives. Those long summer nights are here, friends and neighbors, and I welcome them with open arms.
Growing up, during the summer, I would go up my grandma's every day and swim with my cousins. We would run and play in the yard and play in the pool. Those days seemed to never end. One of the best parts of summer for me is after a delicious dinner making the decision to go get ice cream. Nothing is better on a summer night than some ice cream or other kind of frozen treat.
Luckily for us here in the Garden Village we have two great ice cream shops that are ready to serve us. Granted there are still social distancing restrictions in place at both Blue Ribbon and Ballyhoo and they are only allowing a certain number of people in the building at a time, but ice cream is ice cream. Yes the change does take a little bit getting used to. But it is so worth it.
It is so nice to gradually see more and more people on the streets practicing social distancing, drinking in the beauty of our little town, enjoying the beautiful weather, and even enjoying an ice cream. Now more than ever it is important to support the small businesses that give our little town flavor, that bring so much joy to so many, and most importantly the businesses that help make this town a home. Both great local ice cream parlors are currently open for takeout only but are both offering their full menus. So take some time to take a nice walk sometime this week. And along the way, treat yourself to a delicious frozen treat. You deserve it.
