The Greater Pittston Santa Squad Has been traveling around Greater Pittston since November. If you’re looking for a way to help families in need during this holiday season in a safe way, the Santa Squad will be at various businesses, accepting gifts and monetary donations to make Christmas a little merrier for local children, ages newborn to teen.

Saturday, Dec. 5, they will be at Casey Dental at 1073 Oak St. in Pittston Twp. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 6, they will be at Antonio’s Pizza, 45 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, from 10 a.m. to noon and at Skibitsky and Molino Attorneys at Law, 457 N. Main St., from 1 to 4 p.m.

Decorating contest

Remember to check out Mayor Michael Lombardo’s announcement of the winners of the Deck the City Holiday Decorating Contest via Facebook live by at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21.

St. John the Evangelist Church news

St. John the Evangelist is streaming events online during the holiday season. At 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, Dr. Charles Stevens will play Christmas music on the baby grand piano. The program will be available for viewing online starting at 8 p.m. and will be available throughout December.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, lectors and ministers from St. John’s and St. Joseph Marello parishes will share holiday readings and carols through video online. A booklet for the service will be available online to follow along.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, a video of festive and peaceful Christmas organ music will be available.

Pittston Memorial Library news

Due to the rise in COVID 19 cases, Pittston Memorial Library has closed for browsing and has returned to curb-side services. Library materials will still be accessible. You can place holds for porch-pick up using the online catalog or by calling the library during porch pick-up hours. If you’re not sure what you want to read, library staff is happy to help with that. Other library services such as faxing and copying will continue to be available. Porch pick-up is available from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays.

Arts council bingo

Pittston Arts Council announced its designer purse bingo will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at St. Joseph Marello Parrish Hall on William Street. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the bingo will start at 2. There will be food and beverage for sale and raffle baskets.

If you had tickets for the original bingo that was scheduled and canceled due to COVID, hold onto them.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. You can message the council on Facebook for information or call 570-954-7322.
