I hope everyone is having a very happy, healthy and merry Christmas with family and friends! After making it through the requisite “hustle and bustle” of the preparations for the holiday, it is always such a joy for me to be able to take these coming days to truly rest and count my blessings.

On the cusp of a new year, I find myself encountering a very unique blend of nostalgia and hopeful expectation. I think back to Thanksgiving, the start of the holiday season, with the realization that all I am thankful for has just been celebrated again at Christmas. Looking ahead, I am hopeful for what is to come in a new year — a year I wish is better for each of us.

Police food drive

Pittston Twp. Police Department’s second annual holiday food drive is now in full swing!

Last year’s drive was a huge success, all made possible by generous donations. All non-perishable foods will be donated to Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston.

Donations can be dropped off inside the front vestibule of the police department.

Jenkins Twp. refuse and recycling stickers

Refuse and recycling stickers are now available for Jenkins Twp. residents. Letters explaining pricing and options have been sent to all residents. Full information can be found on the Jenkins Twp. Facebook page or by calling the municipal building office at 570-654-3315.

PTAA fund drive

Pittston Twp. Ambulance Association has begun its 2022 fund drive. The upcoming year will be the association’s 45th year providing emergency care and services to residents of Pittston Twp.

The annual membership is $35 and lasts throughout the entire upcoming year. All membership donations go directly to the PTAA, and funds are utilized daily to maintain equipment, facilities, staff and so many other important resources.

Memberships can be obtained by filling out the registration form and returning it to the business office at 24 Bryden St., Pittston Twp. Membership also can be obtained in person at this address.

If you haven’t received a mailing brochure or if you have questions, visit the office or call 570-654-47217.

Jenkins Twp. Hose Company fund drive

Jenkins Twp. Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 is holding its 2022 fund drive. The members thank residents and businesses for their past contributions.

More than 50% of the operating budget is supported by donations from Jenkins Twp. and Yatesville Borough.

The organization recently switched over 60 fluorescent light fixtures to LED in the hall and is having the entire building painted. The 1986 Dodge brush truck was replaced by a 2018 Ford F-550 with much more functionality, and a F-250 is on order to haul pumps and hose to deal with storms and other emergencies, as the company’s duties continue to evolve.

Residents can drop off or mail donations to 2 Second St. Donation kits can be picked up at the station or call 570-655-5045 “option two.”

Yatesville notices

Yatesville residents are advised to keep an eye on their mail and look for letters regarding the 2022 garbage stickers.

The basketball courts at the Yatesville park have closed for the winter. Please refrain from using the courts at this time.

When driving through Yatesville, please be sure to use caution and obey traffic signs.
