With the lack of church picnics and food festivals taking place this summer, the Duryea Borough Police Association is planning to tantalize your taste buds with a summer festival food favorite at its upcoming community dinner.
Duryea Borough Police Association will hold a takeout porketta dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Holy Rosary School, 125 Stephenson St.
The menu includes porketta, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, vegetable, dinner roll and cake. There also will be a hot dog meal for kids. All meals will be prepared for takeout. Social distancing requirements must be followed.
Tickets are $12 in advance. There will be a limited amount of tickets at the door for $15 each. Kids’ meal tickets are $5.

Legion food sales
Duryea American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585 will host a food sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the post home, 329 Main St. The menu includes Texas wiener, $3.25; hamburger, $3.50; cheeseburger, $4; Texas cheeseburger, $5; chicken patty sandwich, $4; chicken patty deluxe with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese, $5; fresh-cut fries, $3; cheese fries, $3.50; gravy fries, $3.50; cheese and gravy fries, $4; onion rings, $3.50, and mozzarella sticks, six for $5.
Also, there will be two children’s meals: a hot dog, fries and cookies, $3, or chicken nuggets, fries and cookies; $3.

The following weekend, the American Legion will host an Italian Day dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at the post home.
The dinner includes an Italian platter with two chicken cheese stuffed manicotti, gnocchi with vodka sauce, two homemade meatballs, Italian macaroni and cheese, spaghetti salad and Italian bread with butter for $12.
There also will be additional Italian delicacies sold separately: three homemade meatballs, $2.25; chicken manicotti, $2 each; gnocchi with vodka sauce, $5 per pint; Italian macaroni and cheese, $4 per pint; spaghetti salad, $3 per pint; cannoli, $3; chocolate-dipped cannoli, $4, and anise cookies, six for $3 or 12 for $6.
Lou’s Concessions also will be on site selling funnel cakes, deep-fried Oreos and fresh-squeezed lemonade.
All Italian food items must be pre-ordered by Friday, Sept. 4.

Duryea Wildcats will host a barbecue chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Wildcats field at the Duryea Sports Complex, 700 Foote Ave.
The menu includes half of a chicken with a new secret Wildcats barbecue sauce, homemade coleslaw, roll and pudding.
Tickets are $15 at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Duryea Wildcats sports programs, which include nearly 150 children.
Duryea Street Department collection schedule for the week of Aug. 30 is as follows: garbage, Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1; plastic and glass recycling, Wednesday, Sept. 2, and cardboard and paper recycling, Thursday, Sept. 3. Yard waste will be collected Friday, Sept. 4.
Yard waste is collected every Friday, except on holiday weeks. Grass and shrub clippings must be placed in containers or paper lawn bags not to exceed 30 pounds. All branches must be cut into 3-foot sections and placed together in bundles no larger than 3 inches in diameter. Yard waste placed in garbage bags, and dirt, rocks or animal waste will not be collected.

Beer and music festival cancelled
Duryea Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227’s Rock 107 Craft Beer and Classic Rock Festival, which was scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept. 12, has been canceled.
CEO food distribution new location
Duryea Borough’s Commission on Economic Opportunity Food Drive is held the second Monday of each month. Beginning Sept. 14, the food drive will take place monthly at a new location, Germania Hose Company, 430 Foote Ave. Set up is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Food can be picked up from 2 to 3 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome.
Germania Wine Fest
Germania Hose Company will host its fourth annual wine fest from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, on the hose company grounds, 430 Foote Ave.
The public is invited to stop by to sample local wineries, craft beers and foods and shop at the craft vendor stands while enjoying live entertainment.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. To purchase advance tickets, see any member. Tickets also will be available online soon. All those attending must be 21 or older.
Tax Collector Martin Hanczyc announced the school taxes have been mailed.
Taxes can be paid from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the municipal building, 315 Main St. Payments also may be sent to Hanczyc at 79 Main St. Duryea, PA 18642.
