As we prepare to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on our nation, many of you may want to mark it in a special way. Thankfully, the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227, Duryea American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 585 will host an event that not only honors the lives lost that day but also closes out the summer season.
This event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the VFW, 529 Stephenson St. Following the ceremony, the annual end-of-summer picnic will take place with an outdoor concert by The Sperazza Band until 9:30 p.m. Admission is free. Food and beverages will be sold. The public is welcome to attend.
Duryea Street Department collection schedule for the week of Sept. 5 is as follows: garbage, Tuesday, Sept. 7, and Wednesday, Sept. 8. Recyclables and yard waste will not be collected this week.
