Sacred Heart of Jesus Church celebrates the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Monday, Oct. 4. The Rev. Thomas Petro will administer a special blessing to all pets at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 a.m., near the front steps of Sacred Heart Church. Parishioners and friends of the parish are invited to bring their animals to the church to pray for the intercession of the saint who loved nature and all of God’s creatures. Members of the Holy Name Society will host a light outdoor social following the blessing. To provide a safe environment for all who attend this event, please be sure that all pets are properly restrained.

School desks

The basement of the Sacred Heart Sunday school building is being cleaned and organized and a number of student desks and chairs from the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Parochial School need to be removed. If you would like one, contact Kathy at the parish office.

Polish American Citizens Polish American Citizens Club, Elm Street, Dupont, will hold its regular monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the club. All active members are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Road closure

Walnut Street Bridge is being paved and will remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 19. The bridge will be open to traffic Monday, Sept. 20.

Lions food distribution

The monthly food distribution sponsored by the Dupont Lions Club will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 23, at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.

Litter cleanup

Dupont Lions will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Dupont Municipal Building to remove litter along Route 315 as part of World Cleanup Day.

Hometown Hero BannersThe Hometown Hero Banners sponsored by the Dupont Lions have been taken down because of damage and are stored at the park pavilion. There are a few more banners that will be coming down in the near future. An announcement will be made later this month as to the status of the banner program. At that time contact information will be given out for those interested in reordering, should the decision be made to do so. Research and samples of new material are being requested and the Lions will meet soon to discuss the program.

Polka Sundays

Polka Sundays are back in full swing at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3909. September’s entertainment for Polka Sundays, held from 2 to 6 p.m. each week, will include George Tarasek and Polka Partners on Sept. 19, and the Golden Tones on Sept. 26.

Crime Watch meeting

Dupont Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the municipal building.

Baby shower benefit

A Pro-Life Baby Shower sponsored by Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Sacred Heart Church will be held Sept. 18-19 to benefit the Wyoming Valley Chapter of Pennsylvanians for Human Life. New baby items, such as sleepers, blankets, afghans, quilts, washcloths and towels, disposable diapers, etc., for sizes newborn to 24 months, are needed.

Donations can be dropped off before or after all Masses and can be placed in the play pen located in the church narthex. Monetary donations can be placed in the collection basket or sent to the parish office in an envelope marked “Baby Shower.” The CCM invites all to attend a mock baby shower in the church hall after 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Sept. 19.
