Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish announces its first parish take and heat Lenten food sale featuring traditional homemade Polish foods. The sale will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, March 5, in the church hall. The menu consists of homemade borscht and lentil soup along with homemade pagach (potato and cheese).

The soup will be $10 per quart and the pagach will be half a sheet tray for $20. The pagach will be par-baked with heating instructions. To order, clip the order form in the Sunday bulletin and return it with payment to the parish office by Sunday, Feb. 28, or print out the form on the parish website at www.sacredheartdupont.com.

In other parish news, the picnic committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the church hall. The committee will continue accepting monthly donations. Liquor donations are being sought for February. Please donate unopened bottles of liquor for the bar raffle. Drop off donations in the designated basket in the back of the church.

Sacred Heart will hold its annual flea market April 24-25 in the parish hall. If you have items in good condition that you no longer want or need, you are kindly asked to hold onto them until March, at which time the church will begin accepting donations. Items that will be accepted include household items, toys and holiday decorations, to name a few. Electronics and clothing will not be accepted.

Lions Club food distribution

Dupont Lions Club’s monthly food drive will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 18, at Sacred Heart Church. All qualifying resident of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.

Dupont Youth Baseball

Dupont Youth Baseball will move forward with plans for a 2021 season. Once again, registration is free as the organization operates solely on support of community sponsors and league volunteers. Players 3 to 7 years are invited to play. There are no town jurisdictions, which means all children from the area are welcome to play in Dupont.

Hose company breakfast

Dupont Hose Company’s annual breakfast will be held Sunday, May 2, at the hose company home. The annual fundraising event is typically held in March but due to COVID restrictions it has been moved to May. More details will follow as they become available.

Refuse and recycling

Dupont’s 2021 refuse/recycling bags are now in penalty. The deadline for getting your stickers was Jan. 31. As of Feb. 1, there is a 10% additional fee, and beginning March 1, another additional 10% fee will be charged. Delinquent accounts will be sent to the magistrate in April. Please contact the municipal office to make arrangements for the refuse/recycling payment.

Snow reminders

Residents are reminded the borough’s snow ordinance requires that sidewalks be cleared of snow. Do not put snow onto roadways. During a snowfall, road maintenance takes priority over trash and recycling collection and collections may move to another day. Please be patient.

Senior housing

Luzerne County Housing Authority broke ground for new low income senior housing at the former site of the Ben Franklin School. Ash Wednesday at Holy Mother of SorrowsHoly Mother of Sorrows announces services for Ash Wednesday. Masses with blessing and ashes will be held at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 17.

Stations of the Cross will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays during Lent.

Get gas

UGI’s Get Gas Project is continuing in Dupont. Anyone interested in gas service should submit their application as soon as possible. Applications are available at the municipal office during regular hours or contact Lucy Sassi, sales/marketing representative for UGI at 570-829-8664 or email lsassi@ugi.com.

Residents who have converted to gas or those looking into gas service are reminded UGI offers a variety of rebates and incentives to help customers lower their energy bills through the use of high efficiency equipment.
