Merry Christmas! I wish you and your loved ones a very merry Christmas. May you be blessed with love and joy this holiday season.

Sacred heart news

A new sock drive is being sponsored by the sixth grade CCD class of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church to supply homeless men with new socks during winter. The collection runs until Sunday, Jan. 2. Any size or color men’s socks may be deposited in either the bin in the church narthex or the bin in the Sunday school.

In other Sacred Heart news, the parish’s annual blessing of families will take place Sunday, Dec. 26, as the church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. As the church does each year on this feast, those attending the Mass will receive a special blessing as individuals or as families after the general intercessions. Simply remain in the pew for a brief blessing.

Sacred Heart’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers will not hold its annual wafer dinner this year due to COVID concerns. The group will make its annual presentation of fundraising proceeds at the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Jan. 2. All confraternity members are invited to attend the Mass as a group.

Refuse bills

The 2022 refuse bills have been mailed. The yearly fee will include a one-page calendar, window card and 60 labels. Residents will now purchase their own bags, 30-gallon, with a 35-pound maximum weight limit, and apply the labels prior to placing trash curbside. Only one sticker is needed per bag.

Residents can continue to use leftover bags until their supply is exhaust. The bags with Dupont’s name do not need stickers.

Residents will see a reduction of $15 from the rates billed in 2021. Residential/family will pay $125, seniors will pay $95, and commercial will pay $160, with glass disposal fees of $260 to $360.

Refuse/recycling payments can be made at the borough office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday; 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, as well as 9 to 11 a.m. Sundays for the remainder of December and through January. Payment can also be mailed to Dupont Borough at 600 Chestnut St.

Dupont Borough will only collect paper and cardboard recycling on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Plastic and cans will no longer be recycled and should be placed out on Mondays with the regular household trash.

Permits and code enforcement remindersZoning permits and building permits are required for construction and remodeling projects. Contact Luzerne County Zoning at 570-825-1560 and BHW Construction for permits at 570-270-3900.

Fundraisers for veteransBernie McDonald, Pennsylvania AMVETS and Greater Pittston AMVETS Post 189 commander, asks for your support for two fundraising projects.

The first project is Patriot’s Cove, a nonprofit organization founded by a military veteran to empower other veterans, first responders and their caregivers to heal and adapt to life after service. At Patriots Cove, the group provides restorative outdoor activities, environmental service projects and educational events and retreats for caregivers on the groups’s 18-acre refuge.

The second fundraiser helps the Greater Pittston AMVETS Post 189 with its yearly projects. The post is selling calendars for $20. Each calendar will have a three-digit number to match to the daily evening lottery number. The lottery calendar is good for the entire year.

Please contact McDonald at 570-817-4858 to make a Patriot’s Cove donation or for information. Contact any AMVET to purchase a calendar.
