Dupont Lions Club held a cleanup on Route 315 on Oct. 10. From left, are Lion Bob Price, Lion Chris Kalmanowicz and Dupont Council member volunteer Joe Karkut.

Renovations to the municipal building will begin Monday, Nov. 2. Access to the building during construction will be restricted. Anyone with special needs will have to call ahead to make arrangements since the handicap ramp will be blocked during construction. A door bell will be added at the side door, nearest the flagpoles, as a temporary entrance during construction. Patty McDonald, borough secretary, and Susan Gregory, tax collector, will be working out of the council chambers after Nov. 2.

The municipal office will maintain regular hours.

Tax collector’s hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays. If the times are inconvenient and special arrangements need to be made, call 570-262-4100. Tax payments can be mailed or placed in the foyer of the borough building. No cash payments will be accepted.

Photos and volunteers needed

Patty McDonald is looking for volunteers to come in and go through hundreds of rolls of maps and zoning plans. They need to be sorted, labeled then boxed for storage.

McDonald also is looking for pictures for next year’s municipal calendar. Any community organization that would like to have their pictures placed in the calendar can email them to McDonald.

Halloween update

The Dupont Volunteer Fire Company will not sponsor a Halloween event on Oct. 31. Regrettably, conflicting information was given to the newspaper regarding the hose company’s plans to distribute candy on Halloween and that information was included in last week’s column.

Police signs

Dupont Crime Watch is holding a fundraiser to help support the Dupont Police Department. The group is selling signs supporting the police. They will be $10 each and will be available shortly. The group will post on its Facebook page when the signs are in.

Let’s show our support for the police!

VFW reopening

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 is schedule to reopen Thursday, Nov. 12. The post will adhere to restriction guidelines and only have 50% occupancy. The bar will be closed with service taking place in the dining room. The kitchen will be in full service with takeouts available. Tentatively the VFW will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hours of operation have not been determined. Information on hours will follow shorty.

Voting information

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and voters who wish to go to the polls and cast their vote can do so at the VFW Post at 401 Main St. There are two entrances to the polling place, the first is the side entrance on Grant Street and the second is handicap accessible in the rear of the building through the kitchen entrance off Grant Street.
