Holy Mother of Sorrows’ annual Dozynki Harvest Festival will not be celebrated as it has been in the past. A scaled back version of the Dozynki celebration will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, with a Mass at 9 a.m., followed by the wreath ceremony. As a token of good luck and the harvest bounty, a wheat boutonniere tied with red and white ribbon will be given to all who attend.
CDC guidelines will be followed to ensure the safety of all who attend, which will limit attendance to parishioners only. As a reminder, face masks are required.
Lions Club meeting
The Dupont Lions Club’s meeting location has been changed from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post to the Dupont Municipal Building. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14. Many projects and events are on the agenda and all members are asked to attend this busy and important meeting. As always, masks are required.
Dupont Lions Club’s monthly food distribution will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 24, at the municipal building. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.

Cost is $15 for small items, such as plastic patio chairs, sweepers, small area rugs, window blinds, bed frames, toilets and sinks, and $25 for large items, like couches, chairs, loveseats, sectionals by piece, mattresses, box springs, dressers, room-size rugs, entertainment centers, bookcases, picnic tables, wood patio furniture, kitchen tables and chairs, tubs, desks, hot water heaters (with water removed), stereo systems, basketball hoops on poles, doors, wooden or wire fences, swing sets and lawnmowers.
The following will not collected: medical waste, furnaces, construction materials, boilers, oil tanks, gas bottles, propane tanks, asbestos and demolition material.

Crime Watch news
The next meeting of the Dupont Crime Watch will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the council chambers. A decision will be made whether to hold the Halloween and Christmas parties.
The office of Dr. Martin Moran, Lackawanna Avenue, will administer flu vaccinations from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.
No appointments are necessary, but please bring your current insurance card with you to the office.
Sacred Heart news
Students in both Catholic and public schools are invited to attend the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Sept. 20, for the annual back to school blessing. Teachers and students will be blessed at this Mass.
Homebound parishioners of Sacred Heart may have Holy Communion brought to them the first Friday of each month by calling the parish office at 570-654-3713.
Elm Street Sportsmen’s meeting
Elm Street Sportsmen’s Club will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the clubhouse in Suscon. John Lizak will preside. Masks are required.
Greater Pittston Regional Compost Facility is open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Municipal members are Avoca, Dupont, Duryea and Hughestown boroughs, Pittston City and Jenkins and Pittston townships. The facility is in the Grimes Industrial Park, 67 Garden Road, Dupont.
Compost is available to residents of the member municipalities at no cost other than a fee of $10 to have employees load the compost.
Contractor compost prices are $10 for a pickup, $25 for a 1-ton truck, $45 for a single axle and $75 for a tri-axle.
Compost also can be picked up behind the Dupont Municipal Building.
Yard waste accepted at the site includes grass, leaves, and branches no wider than 6 inches. Stumps are not acceptable. Also, please do not mix in non-acceptable items, including trash, recycling, dirt, stone, etc. This will cause damage to the machinery.
