Elko’s is pleased to announce it is preparing for the reopening of the bowling lanes. Adult leagues will begin the 2021-22 bowling season the last week of August.
Elko’s also has an early six-team league on Tuesday nights.

Holy Mother of Sorrows news
The Ladies ANS Society of Holy Mother of Sorrows will offer a complimentary pasta dinner for Father’s Day to all members of the parish. Dinner includes pasta with meat sauce, tossed salad, Italian bread and dessert. This will be takeouts only and meals can be picked up after the 8 or 10:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday, June 20. Reservations can be made by signing up at the church or by calling Lois at 570-603-9633 or Mary Jo at 570-654-0724 by Monday, June 14.
Holy Mother of Sorrows recently honored the men and women who served in the Armed Forces during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and in Iraq and Afghanistan. The service was held at the parish grounds with a gun salute and taps conducted by the Greater Pittston AMVETS. The Rev. Zbigniew Dawid and Paul Kaspriskie Jr. conducted the memorial service. Fellowship and refreshments followed the service in the parish hall. Special thanks to Lois McHugh and Rose Kazinetz for preparing and decorating the hall for this occasion.

Scout car wash
Duryea Boy Scouts Troop 375 is sponsoring a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the Germania Volunteer Hose Company, Duryea. Refreshments will be available at the event. Help support the troop whose members recently helped the Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS place flags throughout the Sacred Heart and Holy Mother of Sorrows cemeteries.
Tickets are available for Dupont Youth Baseball’s fifth annual chicken barbecue fundraiser, which will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the pavilion at the Little League on Elm Street. Tickets are $10 and include half a barbecue chicken, coleslaw, corn on the cob, roll and dessert.
Tickets will be available in advance at the field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday or at the municipal building during regular hours.
Community yard sale
A community-wide yard sale will be held in Dupont from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12. Parts of Suscon also will participate, including Bear Creek and Langan roads. Information, pictures of items, and the residences taking part can be found on the Dupont, Suscon, Bear Creek Road Community Yard Sale Facebook page. The event will be held rain or shine.
Dupont Code Enforcement will be going throughout town issuing citations for noncompliance with ordinances, including building permit violations, failure to pay refuse fees, high grass, yard maintenance issues and trash on properties. Ordinances are posted at dupontpa.us.
Sewer bills due
Due date for the 2021 sewer billing is Wednesday, June 30. Past due refuse accounts will be turned over to the magistrate’s office for collection with added court costs.
Property owners are reminded to update information at the borough office. If you have moved, sold your home recently, or have rental units, please update the owner and tenant registration by calling the borough office at 570-655-6216 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. This information is on file not only for billing purposes but in case of emergencies and the need to contact property owners/renters.
Sacred Heart news
The 74th annual parish picnic at Sacred Heart is currently scheduled for one day only on Saturday, July 31. Homemade foods, theme baskets and games of chance will be available. The next picnic meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, in the church hall.
The American Red Cross thanks Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish for sponsoring a recent blood drive. The drive resulted in 12 pints of blood with 36 patients donating.
Electronics collection and paper shredding
An electronics collection and paper shredding event is planned at the Dupont Municipal Building from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12.
UGI’s Get Gas Project is continuing in Dupont. Anyone interested in gas service should submit their application as soon as possible.
