Soup’s on and a few more items, too, at Queen of the Apostles Parish!

The social concerns/respect life ministry will host a drive-thru soup and more sale Friday, March 5, in the parish hall, 742 Spring St. The soups, which are red and white clam chowder, are $8.50 per quart. Haluski is $6 per quart, and vodka sauce is $8.50 per quart. This is a pre-order sale. Orders are due by Monday, March 1. Queen of the Apostles will pray the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent following the 8 a.m. Mass and at 5:15 p.m. in the church, 715 Hawthorne St. Prior to the Stations, the Our Lady of Sorrows prayer group will recite the rosary at 4:45 p.m.

As part of the Diocese of Scranton’s The Light is on for You Lenten reconciliation program, the parish will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 22 and March 1, 8, 15 and 22, at the church. During this time, the Holy Eucharist will be exposed on the altar. All are welcome to spend some time in reparation to our Blessed Lord during this hour. The sacrament will still be available from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. Saturdays.

The social concerns/respect life ministry is sponsoring its annual Easter basket food program. Any parishioner who needs a basket of food for their Easter meal should contact the office by Sunday, March 21.

Bethel U.M. Church newsBethel United Methodist Church, 532 Main St., has resumed its weekly 11:15 a.m. Sunday service.

Food pantry

Avoca Food Pantry will be open at 4 p.m. Thursdays, March 4 and 18, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 532 Main St. The food, provided by the CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, can be picked up in the rear entry of the building. For information, please call Jim at 570-921-9899.

Knights of Columbus

Knights of Columbus, Cardinal John J. O’Connor Council 12967 will host Queen of the Apostles Parish’s holy hour from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the church. The service will include praying the Rosary for Life.

Any Catholic man, 18 or older, is welcome to join the Knights. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month in Queen of the Apostles Parish Hall, 742 Spring St. Contact Grand Knight Bob Ryzner at 570-885-2096 for information.

Trash fee

Residents may pay their 2021 refuse fees from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Avoca Borough Municipal Building, 950 Main St. The fee to have up to three bags collected weekly is: $170 if purchased by March 20; $180 if purchased between March 21 and April 20; $190 if purchased between April 21 and May 20, and $200 if purchased between May 21 and June 21. If anyone has more than three bags of garbage per week, please call Therese Wrubel at 570-457-4891 for extra bag stickers. Residents also can pay the fee by mail by sending a check made payable to Avoca Borough, c/o Therese Wrubel, 129 Factory St., Avoca, PA 18641.
