Use your change to make a change with Queen of the Apostles Parish.

Queen of the Apostles Parish is participating in the Pennsylvanians for Human Life, Wilkes-Barre chapter’s baby bottle coin collection campaign. Anyone who chooses to participate will receive a baby bottle, supplied by the Wilkes-Barre chapter, to fill with spare change, cash or a check.

Once the bottle is filled, it can be placed in the basket in front of the baptismal font in the church, 715 Hawthorne St., during any weekend Mass or dropped off at the rectory. Returns are due by Father’s Day, June 18.

All proceeds will benefit the chapter’s work in providing supplies to mothers and their newborn children, supporting women in crisis pregnancies and distributing pro-life literature to the community.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day! Whether you’re a mom, grandmother, godmother, aunt, sister, fur baby mom or simply a wonderful woman, today is your day! Enjoy it and treat yourself to something special today!

I’d like to wish my mother, Lorraine, a very happy Mother’s Day! Mom, as I continue to grow in my role as a mother I develop a deeper appreciation for everything you did for Tom and me when we were kids. Balancing working with motherhood and family life is a delicate dance, but you performed it beautifully! You always were and continue to be an inspiration to me. I love you very much! God bless you!

Queen of the Apostles Parish will host its annual golf tournament Sunday, June 4, at the Pine Hills Country Club, 140 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor. This year’s tournament will be played in loving memory of Patrick Shotwell Sr.

Registration for the tournament begins at 7:15 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The format is captain and crew. Singles will be placed on a team. The cost is $90 per golfer and includes prizes and a dinner following the tournament. There are also several types of sponsorships available, which are great advertising vehicles or a wonderful way to honor a loved one.

The parish also needs basket donations for the basket raffle. Chances for the basket raffle will be on sale one week before the tournament.

Tax payments

Residents may pay their Luzerne County/Avoca Borough tax bill at the Avoca Municipal Building, 950 Main St., from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays.

That’s about it for this week, my friends.
