Oldies dance will

benefit breast cancer

An oldies dance breast cancer fundraiser will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Dupont Volunteer Hose Company, 308 Main St. Enjoy live music and hear all the old favorites, including Swing, Cha Cha, Waltz, Rumba and Fox Trot.

Senior vouchers good

at local farmers

markets until Nov. 30

The Area Agency on Aging of Luzerne/Wyoming Counties announced distribution of vouchers for the 2018 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Voucher Program ended Sept. 30. Participants who have already received vouchers from the program have until Nov. 30 to redeem them.

These vouchers can only be used to purchase Pennsylvania-grown fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers market stands that are participants of the Department of Agriculture’s voucher program. Baked goods, meats, jam, honey, apple cider and eggs cannot be purchased with these vouchers.

Due to the death of Yatesville Tax Collector Helen “Elaine” Centi, borough residents wishing to make payments in person must do so at the borough building, 33 Pittston Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. For information, call 570-654-2455.

Friends of the Pittston Library will hold its annual Barnes and Noble book fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Vouchers are available at the library.

Cookie sale set

at St. Nicholas Church

St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church 320 Vine St. Old Forge is holding its annual Christmas cookie sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. All cookies are homemade, including anise wedding, thumbprint, pepper cookies, chocolate chip, peanut butter kisses, nut rugalach, linzer, welsh cookies and more. Kaufer offers disability assistance, senior events

State Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) reminds residents that his office offers assistance events to veterans and persons with disabilities each month.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third Thursday of each month, Brian Stolarski, department service officer with the American Legion, is at Kaufer’s office to assist veterans, their spouses and their dependents with a range of issues including compensation, pensions, death benefits, education and health care, as well as many other veteran-related issues.

The fourth Wednesday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m., Bob Fox, from the Center for Independent Living (CIL), will be available for the Disability Advocacy Program to assist persons with disabilities, 18 and over. Fox can assist with skills training, information and referral to additional services, peer counseling, home modifications, attendant care and community integration, and deaf and autism services.

Pittston trash bills past due

Pittston City trash payment is past due. Cost is $120 (plus a $20 late fee) for 60 stickers. After the initial fee is paid, residents may purchase extra stickers at a minimum of 12 for $24. Additional packs of 60 stickers are available for $120. Bring or mail the bill when making payment. If mailing payment, include $5 for postage and handling, and make payable to Pittston City and mail to Tax Office, 35 Broad St., Pittston, PA 18640. Specify if the stickers are to be sent to an address other than the mailing address. Landlords are reminded bills are sent to the homeowner. If a tenant is responsible for payment, landlords must give the bill to the tenant so they can bring or mail the bill when payment is made.
