will host Healing Mass
A Healing Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel of the Oblates of St. Joseph, Highway 315, Laflin, on Sunday, March 31. The Eucharistic Liturgy of healing will begin at 3 p.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will start at 2:30 p.m.
The Mass will feature uplifting, inspirational, up-tempo music praising and glorifying God with a healing theme. The message of the Mass is that in difficult times, it is important to keep praying and praising God. Music will be provided by Ernie Pappa with a choir performing contemporary Christian music.

Church plans soup
and salad supper
Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Mount Zion Road in Harding, Exeter Twp., will hold an all-you-can-eat soup and salad supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6.
A variety of soups, chili, salads, breads, beverages and desserts will be offered. Adult meals cost $7 and children’s meals cost $4. The public is invited.
PA Class of ’69 plans
golden class reunion
Dr. John J. Jerrytone, president, and the officers and executive committee of the Pittston Area High School Class of 1969 invite class members, their families and friends to celebrate the golden class reunion at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Fox Hill Country Club, Exeter.
Sweet Pepper and the Long Hots will provide music for dancing.
The dinner will include a champagne welcome followed by Caesar salad and a choice of one of the following entrees: chicken piccata sauteed in white wine, fresh lemons and caper butter; Haddock ala Duke, which is panko crusted with lemon and herbs in a lemon wine sauce; or an 8 oz. char broiled filet mignon with mushroom caps and bordelaise sauce. All dinners include whipped potatoes and green beans almondine. Strawberry shortcake and ice cream will be served for dessert.

St. Michael’s holding
Lenten food sales
St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St., Pittston, is holding Lenten food sales from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Fridays during Lent. Pre-order food items by calling 570-905-7387. Items can be picked up at the back of church.
The sale will include Old Forge style pizza, baked or unbaked; halushki, fish sandwich with coleslaw, tuna hoagie with lettuce and tomato, pirohi and homemade soup of the week. Call for the type of soup being offered.
Proceeds benefit the church.
U.M. Church of Pittston plans
United Methodist Church of Pittston will sponsor a bus trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse will be held Wednesday, May 15, to see “Over the River and Through the Woods.” Bruce Weitz, who portrayed Sgt. Mick Belker on “Hill Street Blues,” leads the cast of this comedy classic. Price of the trip is $110 and includes bus, show, lunch and driver tip. Art e Fekts plans
Art e Fekts Gallery will present “Triple Vision: Photography, Jewelry and Unique Fixtures,” an exhibition of the work of member artists Diane Cosgrove, William and Kate Luvender of Mariah Sol Jewelry, and Scott Nichols of Seven 810 Fixtures.
This exhibition will be on display in the Art e Fekts Gallery, South Main Street, Pittston, throughout April, with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 4.
The gallery also is offering art activity classes for young people on four consecutive Saturdays in April. Taught by local art teacher Kathie Di Maggio, these classes offer area kids an opportunity to produce artistic creations ranging from wind chimes to handmade books.
The first class, “Kids Paint and Lemonade,” is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6. This class will explore the architecture of the churches in Pittston and participants will create acrylic paintings of the iconic steeples. The cost of the class is $25 and all supplies and snacks are included. Library lists events
Pittston Memorial Library is announces Tiebrary at the Library. Tiebrary is a new initiative sponsored by the Tom and Dianne Tigue literacy program. The mission of Tiebrary is to make available ties for those in the community who may need them for job interviews and special occasions. The ties are checked out just like a book. They can be borrowed for three weeks or even worn inside the library for customers doing a video interview. A large variety of ties have been donated. The ties come complete with illustrated instructions on how to tie a standard knot.
The library is selling Grammar Pencils which feature common grammar mistakes. Pencils cost $5 for a pack of five.
The library will hold its annual Jean Yates Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Fox Hill Country Club. This year the honoree is Howard Grossman. The community award will go to Ken and Amanda Wrazien.
The library will host a spring book sale in the John P. Cosgrove Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27. New and used books, DVDs and CDs will be available.
Sons of Italy plan annual pasta dinner
The Sons of Italy Gloria Lodge 815 of Old Forge will hold its annual penne pasta dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the bocce courts of Arcaro and Genell’s on Main Street in Old Forge. The dinner is takeouts only with drive through pick-ups available. Dinners are $10 and include penne pasta, meatballs, salad, roll and dessert. For tickets, call 570-498-0178. Walk-ins are welcome. In addition to the dinner, sauce can be ordered for $6 per quart and meatballs are $6 per pint.
This event benefits the group’s scholarship program.
Yatesville announces tax payment change
Due to the death of Yatesville Tax Collector Helen “Elaine” Centi, borough residents wishing to make payments in person must do so at the borough building, 33 Pittston Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. For information, call 570-654-2455.
Kaufer offers disability, senior events
State Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) reminds residents that his office offers assistance events to veterans and persons with disabilities each month.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third Thursday of each month, Brian Stolarski, department service officer with the American Legion, is at Kaufer’s office to assist veterans, their spouses and their dependents with a range of issues including compensation, pensions, death benefits, education and health care, as well as many other veteran-related issues.
The fourth Wednesday of each month from 2 to 5 p.m., Bob Fox, from the Center for Independent Living (CIL), will be available for the Disability Advocacy Program to assist persons with disabilities, 18 and over. Fox can assist with skills training, information and referral to additional services, peer counseling, home modifications, attendant care and community integration, and deaf and autism services.

Pasta dinner will benefit veterans
A pasta dinner to benefit veterans will be held Sunday, March 31, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Center in Pittston. All proceeds will benefit St. Francis Commons and its services to homeless veterans. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with takeouts available 11 a.m. to noon.
Tickets to the event, which is being presented by AmeriHealth Cartas, are $12, aND are available at Mucciollo Family Wines in Old Forge, Vintage Vogue in Pittston, Hot Heads by Michelle in West Pittston, or through St. Francis Commons by calling 570-209-9200, ext. 2302. Music will be provided by Flatland Ruckus and wine will be available from Mucciollo Family Wines. There also will be raffle and 50/50 drawings.
