The Women’s Association of the First United Presbyterian Church of West Pittston will hold its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at The Institute, Wyoming Avenue and Institute Street, Wyoming. Bag Day sale begins at 1 p.m.
Coffee and cake will be available at the snack bar.
St. Joseph Marello Parish plans
breakfast, Night at the Races
St. Joseph Marello Parish invites the community to an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1. The breakfast will be held in the parish center at 237 William St., Pittston.
The menu consists of home fries, scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon and cereal. There will be a drink station with orange juice, lemonade, white and chocolate milk and coffee. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 10. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
The Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Marello Parish is planning a Night at the Races on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the parish center, 237 William St., Pittston. The entrance donation is $5. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be served. Additional information can be obtained by calling 570-654-6902.
St. Peter’s pipe organ turns 100
The community is invited to a 100th birthday celebration for the M.P. Möller pipe organ at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Rock and Center streets, Hughestown, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. Visiting organist Michael Sowa will play works by past and present composers of organ music on the 100-year-old instrument, which was rebuilt in 1994.
A reception will follow the program.
Contributions to the organ fund will be accepted at the event.
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church announces upcoming events
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7 Wood St., Pittston, announced the following activities:
Planning will meet after service Sundays, Oct. 1 and 15.
Council will meet after service Sunday, Oct. 8.
Reformation breakfast will be held after the service Sunday, Oct. 29.
Trunk or Treat will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, rain or shine.
Week Day School is held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. A child-friendly dinner will be followed by interactive lessons and activities. For information, contact the church and leave a message for Marcia.
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will celebrate its 160th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 12, with a dinner at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company.
The anniversary celebration will include a service of Thanksgiving and a dinner from 3 to 6 p.m.
More details about the anniversary celebration will be announced. Sharleen Palaima is planning committee chairwoman.
Outside of council meetings, all events are open to the public.
Members can pick up their fourth quarter church helper list and Portals of Prayer in the rear of the church at the beginning or end of services.
The church has a surplus of sanctuary candles. The candles are available for purchase for $4 each. Contact the church and leave a message if you are interested in purchasing candles.
U.M. Church of Pittston plans holiday
theater trip to ‘Miracle of Christmas’
United Methodist Women of the United Methodist Church of Pittston will sponsor a holiday bus trip to Sight and Sounds Theater in Lancaster to see “The Miracle of Christmas” on Wednesday, Nov. 8, for the 3 p.m. show.
The bus will be at the Pittston Plaza at 8:15 a.m. and will leave promptly at 8:30 a.m.
Price of the trip is $115 per person and includes bus seat, show ticket and lunch at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord.

St. Michael’s will sell pirohi
St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, Winter and Church streets, Old Forge, will conduct a pirohi sale from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26.

St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic
Church plans annual flea market
The Rev. Eduard Shestak and the parishioners of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Old Forge, are having their annual flea market from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.
The event will be held rain or shine at the church hall, 320 Vine St., Old Forge.
Antiques, jewelry, household items, furniture, children’s clothing, toys and much more will be available.
A variety of ethnic food items, baked goods and refreshments also will be featured at the flea market.
