When Cherry Blossom Festival Entertainment Chairwoman Gina Malsky asked Jeff Holtz at Old Mill Pine, 400 Exeter Ave., West Pittston, to donate an item for a fund raising raffle, he tripled down. He insisted on donating two pieces of equipment, a Still FS38 hedge trimmer and a Stihl BG50 blower, each valued at $150, and a Huffy 20-inch street bike valued at $175.

Raffle tickets for the drawings are $5 and will be sold on the festival grounds all day Saturday, May 4, and up to the drawing at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.

Malsky said a featured items raffle is something new for the festival and an addition to the annual Cherry Pick raffle for gift certificates for area restaurants, salons, etc.

Asked why he insisted on donating three items, Jeff Holtz, Old Mill Pine co-owner, said, “What do you say to that? We enjoy donating.” His wife Christine said they like helping out West Pittston. “It’s a good cause. It’s for the town,” she said. Old Mill, a second generation business, often donates to West Pittston causes.

Another indispensable festival donor is Richie Kossuth and Rock Street Music.

Malsky said the money raised by the festival goes to a scholarship, the Salvation Army, and the West Pittston fire and rescue volunteers.

This year’s scholarship winner is Wyoming Area senior Stephen Sokach-Minnick.
