Avoca native Fred Gedrich visited Arlington National Cemetery this month for National Wreaths Across America Day. “It was an indescribable feeling to visit this place and to participate in this remarkable annual event,” Gedrich said. “The good spirit was pervasive. Massive crowd despite cold rain, huge traffic jams, and long lines. We laid a wreath at grave of a Civil War veteran killed in 1864. We visited Dale Kridlo’s grave but a wreath was already placed. We m so many wonderful people from all over country. It seemed everyone wanted to either talk about their loved ones or exchange pleasantries or make simple nods. One nice lady who took one of my photos laid a bottle of Coca Cola at her Dad’s final resting place (his favorite drink).”
