Merle Norman owner Jane Chropowicki knows what couples are looking for on Valentine’s Day.

“Usually they’re looking at chocolate and flowers, but it’s more involved with couples now. Couples are getting more involved and doing things together,” she said. “That’s where I came up with the couples pedicure.”

Chropowicki added the $50 couples pedicure special on top of the downtown retailer’s traditional $10 red manicure special for the week surrounding Valentine’s Day this year.

“We’ve done the red manicures always,” she said. “There’s a lot of interest around Valentine’s.”

Some couples come in for pedicures regularly, Chropowicki said, so she decided to seize the opportunity of Valentine’s Day to offer something special.

“It’s a good way to show appreciation to them while they show appreciation to eachother,” she said.

Michelle Mikitish, of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce, said Pittston’s businesses have plenty to offer couples or anyone looking to get out and celebrate Valentine’s Day. She has spent the last few weeks gathering information on any available specials to include in the chamber website’s “Hot Deals” section.

“Sky Zone is doing a neat one,” she said. The offer includes two 60-minute jump tickets and four slices of pizza and soda for $25.

“It’s a fun night out, especially if you’re, say, an 18-year-old kid with a girlfriend,” Mikitish said.

Callahan’s Cafe on Main Street had also planned a Valentine’s Day dinner for the weekend before the holiday with an entree that ranges in price from $30-$50 and includes a salad and desert sampler for two, Mikitish said.

For drinks after dinner, World of Brew will offer anyone who signs up for their text alert service 20 percent off their bar tabs on Valentine’s Day itself, Mikitish said.

Mikitish said the chamber’s “Hot Deals” section generated a lot of traffic when they shared deals around Thanksgiving, so she hoped the number of businesses sending in their specials and getting in the Valentine’s spirit would have a similar effect.

“We’re trying to encourage more and more of it,” she said.

Chropowicki expected a bustling Valentine’s week of manicures, pedicures and opportunities to showcase her store’s new equipment.

“Sometimes it’s hectic,” Chropowicki said.

All of the deals compiled by the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce will be available this week at, Mikitish said.
